ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP):Cold and dry weather is expected to prevail across most parts of the country on Thursday, with very cold conditions in hilly areas during morning and night hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
In the federal capital and its surrounding areas, the weather will remain cold and dry throughout the day.
Similar conditions are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where northern districts will experience particularly chilly mornings and nights.
In Punjab, while most districts will witness cold and dry weather, very cold conditions are likely in Murree, Galiyat, and nearby regions. Meanwhile, shallow fog may develop in Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and surrounding areas during morning hours, potentially affecting visibility.
The province of Sindh will remain dry, with no significant weather changes expected. Balochistan will also experience cold and dry conditions, with northern districts facing very cold temperatures in the early hours. Additionally, gusty winds are anticipated in the afternoon.
In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather will remain very cold and dry, with temperatures expected to drop significantly in higher altitudes.
Over the last 24 hours, cold and dry conditions dominated most parts of the country. However, isolated rain, accompanied by snowfall over hills, was reported in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Rainfall was recorded in Balakot, Malam Jabba, and Kalam (3mm each), while Pattan and Chitral received 1mm. In Kashmir, Muzaffarabad (Airport) and Kotli recorded 1mm of rainfall.
The coldest temperature in the country was recorded in Leh at -9C, followed by Gupis at -5C, while Quetta, Hunza, Astore, and Parachinar experienced -3C. Malam Jabba, Kalat, Skardu, and Kalam reported a minimum of -2C.
As temperatures continue to drop, residents, especially in northern and hilly areas, are advised to take precautions against the cold. Travelers in Punjab should be mindful of foggy conditions in the early hours.
