ISLAMABAD, Feb 17 (APP):Pakistan’s cycling team stunned competitors at the 44th Asian Road Cycling Championship, securing a remarkable sixth place in the overall medal standings and achieving the country’s best-ever performance in continental cycling.
According to press released issued by Pakistan Cycling Federalist (PCF), the national team brought home a record-breaking six medals: two gold, two silver and two bronze, marking a significant breakthrough for Pakistan in international cycling.
Key performers included Ali Ilyas Jawaid who won gold in Individual Time Trial (ITT) and silver in Road Race and Rabia Garib, who claimed gold in Road Race and silver in ITT. Zainab completed the team’s success with two bronze medals in both ITT and Road Race categories.
“This is a historic moment for Pakistani cycling,” said a spokesperson for the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF). “We’ve proven that our athletes can compete at the highest international levels.”
The success is attributed to robust training programs by the SSGC Sports Board and the Bekistan Cycling Academy Karachi which have been crucial in developing cycling talent.
The achievement not only highlights individual excellence but also signals Pakistan’s emerging potential in continental cycling competitions.
Sports officials are now calling for increased investment and sponsorship to build on this momentum.
