National Women Judo Championship to get under way

LAHORE, Apr 29 (APP):Pakistan Judo Federation, in collaboration with Islamabad Judo Association and Army Sports Directorate, is organising 26th Men and 9th Women National Judo Championships from Tuesday to May 4 at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.
Top 14 teams: KP, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Pak Army, WAPDA, Railway, Police, Navy and HEC will participate in the championship, said a spokesman for PJF here on Monday.
“Pak Army and WAPDA will defend their titles in Men and Women category, respectively,” he added. He said two overseas Pakistani Judokas have already arrived to display their skills in the premier judo activity.
“Japan-based Olympian Shah Hussain Shah, who is Asian bronze medalist, Commonwealth Games silver medalist South Asian triple gold medalist besides the current National champion will defend the title. He is son of our National Pride Hussain Shah, Olympic bronze medalist. Shah had qualified for Rio 2016 thus becoming ever first Pakistani Judoka to achieve this mark. He is also eyeing for Tokyo 2020,” he asserted.
Another enthusiastic Japan-based 20-year-old young girl Amina Toyoda is featuring for the first time at National level. She had represented Pakistan in Asian Junior Judo Championship in Sochi, India and qualified for Semifinal by beating favorite Indian Judoka. Her father Mr Liaqat is a patriotic Pakistani and desires his Japan-born daughter to raise Pakistan flag at international arenas, said the PJF official.
Both Judokas are representing Pakistan Army. Dr Fehmida Mirza, Federal Minister Inter-Provincial Coordination, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Also in the guests of honour will be Akbar Durrani, Secretary IPC and Takahiro Tamura, Head of Public Affairs Section, Embassy of Japan along with Director General, Pakistan Sports Board and other senior officials.
The Championship of men will be held in 10 weights while the championship of women will be held in 8 different weight categories as per the details given below:-
Weight Categories are: Men: -50 Kg-55 Kg, -60 Kg, -66 Kg, -73 Kg, -81 Kg, -90 Kg, -100 Kg , +100 Kg & Open Weight.
Women: -40 Kg,-44 Kg,-48 Kg, -52 Kg, -57 Kg, -63Kg, -70 Kg & Open Weight
Team events are also included in this championship according to international rules & regulations.
