LAHORE, Aug 20 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued strict orders to make the cleanliness operation under Suthra Punjab more effective and ensure timely payment to the workers.
The Chief Minister directed that the salaries of Suthra Punjab workers should be ensured before the 5th of every month, while immediate and strict legal action should be taken against those who delay.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the payment to the workers of 149 out of 151 companies of Suthra Punjab has been completed. Maryam Nawaz clarified that action will be taken against the company that does not pay the workers on time and negligence or financial irregularities in the cleanliness operation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The Chief Minister has also decided to give “Environment Friendly Citizen” stickers to those who maintain cleanliness in commercial and residential areas to encourage citizens. Citizens who maintain cleanliness standards will also be given gifts or certificates by the Chief Minister.
Maryam Nawaz directed the MD WASA to spend at least two hours in the field every day, while TMOs and FMOs to visit at least five union councils every day to review cleanliness. A Clean Punjab Anti-Littering Squad will also be mobilized in each divisional headquarters, which will monitor roads, streets and markets on e-bikes.
The Chief Minister also made it necessary for Clean Punjab workers to carry garbage bags like Murree. Taking strict notice of reports of absenteeism of staff and workers in cities and villages, the concerned authorities have been directed to take action.
Maryam Nawaz ordered the cleaning of empty plots along the streets and roads, regular cleaning of waste enclosures, repair of broken walls and doors and ensuring the correct functioning of mechanical sweepers. It was also directed to continue the process of de-salting for the improvement of drainage and to immediately resolve public complaints related to cleanliness.
The Chief Minister directed the MD, FMOs and TMOs of Suthra Punjab to appoint KPIs and said that they will also monitor the performance report of the Suthra Punjab company in each city. The MD of Suthra Punjab, who has shown poor performance, has also been instructed not to give postings for the next three years.
Maryam Nawaz said that the garbage-filled waste enclosures on the main roads are regrettable, improvement should be seen every day in the cleanliness operation of Suthra Punjab. She clarified that people who sit in offices and receive salaries are not acceptable, officers and staff will have to go to the field and work.
