ISLAMABAD, Nov 19 (APP): Engineer Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman,Minister of State for Education and Professional Training said that the role of higher education has become more prominent and wide ranging.
Addressing at the 11th Convocation of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) here on Thursday, he congratulated the students on their academic achievements.
Over 634 graduates including BBA, MBA, BS, MS and PhD in the fields of Management Sciences, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science and Bioinformatics were awarded degrees.
The Minister also awarded 49 medals which include 21 Gold, 14 Silver and 14 Bronze medals, to the graduates who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their respective degree programmes.
The `Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal’ was also awarded to an overall
best graduate of the Convocation Miss Qudsia Adalat, graduate of
MBA, on her overall distinguished performance in curricular and
extracurricular activities. He appreciated the efforts and
contribution of the University in the field of higher education.
He said that in the present day scenario, education does not
end with acquiring a degree; it is a lifelong affair exploring new
horizons, and broadening of the vision, marching on a never-ending
journey towards new frontiers of knowledge.
In the present times, we do not only need just the
conventional types of education, we are now faced with challenges of
different types and it is the higher education which plays a key
role in determining the position of a nation in today’s knowledge
driven economy, he said.
It guarantees sustainable progress and assures a place of
respect to both individuals and nations, he further added.
Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed, Executive Vice President in his welcome
address said the event is a significant milestone in the lives of
graduates.
He congratulated the students and hoped that the graduates
will contribute towards scientific and technological development of
the country through their ability, dignity, determination and
commitment.
He highlighted the contribution made by the University in the
field of higher education. He informed that the University has
earned a prominent position amongst its competitors by putting high
emphasis on R&D activity and its graduate programs.
Dr. Inam Gillani, Chairman Pakistan Council for Science and
Technology, while addressing the occasion said that Muslim scientist
remained touch bearer in the field of science and their masterpieces
remained included in the curricula for more than 500 years.
In order to rise again, it is dire need of the day that Muslim
youth must excel in the field of research and science. It is only
way Muslims can rise again, he added. He further said that MAJU
University is playing a vital role in the field of research and
development.
While delivering his keynote address at the 11th Convocation
of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah University.
Seven PhD graduates received their PhD degrees; including
Ayesha Noor, Muhammad Faisal Rizwan, Nadeem Iqbal and Tariq Iqbal
Khan in the field of Management Science, while Mohammad Zumard Shah,
Muhammad Riaz and Yasir Awais Butt in the field of Electronic
Engineering.
Mian Amer Mahmood, the Chancellor of the University and
Chairman Punjab Group of Colleges presented the University Shield
and souvenir to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor.

LAHORE, Nov 19 (APP): Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana on Thursday said the government had inaugurated three power plants in just two months which showed its
commitment and effective policies to overcome power outages.
Addressing a seminar on “Traffic Discipline Safety” organized by National Highways and Motorways police (NH&MP) at a local hotel, he said the government was
putting efforts for rehabilitation and revamping of the health department besides other departments for welfare of people and to provide them relief.
The work on infrastructural development, including Karachi-Lahore Motorway, Khanewal-Multan Motorway and roads in northern areas was under way which would be completed soon,adding the government has also given control of the Gwadar Port to
China for its development which would also start a new era of progress and prosperity in country.
The governor said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had put in place effective and efficient measures to attract foreign investment and a number of foreign investors had
shown interest to invest in Punjab.
He said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was determined to work hard for the betterment of people.
The governor said rash driving and use of cellphone during driving were among top reasons of accidents and people should follow traffic rules not only for their own safety but
also for the others.
Appreciating the performance of NH&MP, “I am proud of the NH&MP’s performance”, he said and added the other departments should also learn from the NH&MP as it had set a precedent for
other departments by working hard with responsibility.
Rafique Rajwana assured his full support to NH&MP in
bringing about operational reforms in the department and traffic
laws.
Later, the governor distributed shields among
Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khwaja Salman
Rafique, MPAs Zakia Shahnawaz and Mian Munir, Singer Jawad
Ahmad.
NH&MP Inspector General Muhammad Saleem Bhatti also
presented a souvenir to the governor.
Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal, renowned
artists Sohail Ahmad and Iftikhar Thakur, member of civil
society and NH&MP senior police officials also attended the
seminar.
