Pakistan, Turkey for sustained engagement to strengthen cooperation in diverse spheres

ISLAMABAD, Aug 2 (APP): Expressing satisfaction at the ever-growing cooperation between the two fraternal countries, Pakistan and Turkey Tuesday agreed on the need for sustained engagement for enhanced cooperation in diverse spheres.

The agreement to this effect came during the bilateral meeting between Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz and Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu here.

The importance of early conclusion of bilateral Free Trade Agreement was also highlighted as it would significantly contribute towards the overall vision of the leadership of the two countries to transform the traditionally cordial bilateral relations into a robust economic partnership, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The entire spectrum of Pakistan-Turkey bilateral relations as well as global and regional issues of mutual concern, with special emphasis on Afghanistan, came under discussion during the meeting.

The Adviser congratulated the Foreign Minister on the successful thwarting of the coup attempt on the night of July 15, 2016 and reiterated Pakistan’s unequivocal support for the democratic institutions of Turkey under President Erdogan.

He also expressed condolence on the loss of precious lives in recent terror attacks in Turkey and stated that he had no doubts that the Turkish nation would soon decisively overcome the scourge of terrorism.

Foreign Minister Cavusoglu lauded the successes achieved by Pakistan, especially through Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the National Action Plan.

Both leaders agreed on the need for intensified efforts in the international fight against terrorism.

The Adviser also briefed Foreign Minister Cavusoglu on the latest situation in Afghanistan, including reconciliation efforts, steps taken to improve border management between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the status of Afghan refugees.
He also underscored the imperatives of reaching a sustainable and lasting peace in Afghanistan through reconciliation and dialogue.

On the issue of migration, the Adviser lauded the generous spirit of the people of Turkey in welcoming and hosting refugees from Syria.

The two leaders called upon the developed countries to increase their contributions in this regard.

Since both countries host the largest refugee populations in the world, the leaders agreed that there was an urgent need for a more forthcoming response from the developed countries in order to reduce the disproportionate burden on developing countries.

Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu visited Pakistan from August 1 to 2. During his stay in Islamabad, he called on the President and the Prime Minister and held delegation-level talks with Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs. He also met Minister for SAFRON.

During Cavusoglu’s call on the Prime Minister, both leaders expressed satisfaction at the continued expansion and deepening of bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance that Pakistan attaches to its relations with Turkey and underlined the need to hold regular high-level exchanges.

The President, in his meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister, stressed on the importance of fostering unity among the Muslim Ummah to tackle modern day challenges faced by it and noted that both Pakistan and Turkey had an important role to play in that regard.

Both the President and the Prime Minister reiterated their strong condemnation of the attempted coup in Turkey and lauded the successful defence of democracy by the people of Turkey under the popular leadership of President Erdogan.

Cracks surface in relations between KP CM and Imran Khan over lackluster performance

Cracks surface in relations between KP CM and Imran Khan over lackluster performance

PESHAWAR, Aug 2 (APP): Cracks are surfacing in relations between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and PTI chief Imran Khan, as the latter is dismayed over  poor performance of the Khattak government which is weakening  in face of the onslaught mounted by his dissident group in the party.

Imran Khan, swept the polls in the province on promise of bringing a change, but he was now unhappy as many questions he raised during a recent public meeting got the negative response due to the lackluster performance of his chosen chief minister Khattak.

Despite lapse of three years, serious questions are being raised both within the PTI and from the people who do not see the promised change in their province.

The dissident group in the party do not hide the developing divisions within the party and the disappointment  in their central leadership as their government cannot produce the results expected of it.

PTI dissident MNA, Khiyal Zaman Orakzai while expressing concern over performance of KP government, has said no change is witnessed in the province. It is also admitted by party chief, Imran Khan, adding the dissidents would come on road against their government if their concerns were not addressed.

Khiyal Zaman while commenting on the situation said party chairman, Imran Khan has openly admitted he is not satisfied with the performance of KP government that is why he came hard on party leadership in the province by clipping the powers of the chief minister depriving him of his discretionary powers.

“The objective behind formation of dissident group in PTI was to apprise party leadership that the pledges made with people at time of elections are not being fulfilled and people are  becoming annoyed with the slogan of change,” says Khiyal Zaman.

He said it is the beauty of PTI leadership that it tolerated dissent within the party and gave appropriate hearing to the complaints.

“Our party chief, Imran Khan converted our eleven point demand into 13 which is reflective of the fact that our objections were reasonable and accepted by party leadership.”

MNA Khiyal Zaman Orakzai warned “if our 11-point demand was not accepted within due period of time, we will come on roads to lodge our protest.”

Some insiders are pointing fingers over the allocation of development funds as they claim Khattak  has been diverting funds away to his  own constituency while ignoring others of their due share.

Orakzai also agreed with the allegation that KP government was making undue distribution of development funds giving lion’s share to the districts belonging to the party leaders and neglecting others.

According to the political pundits in the province, KP Chief Minister is allocating billions of rupees to Nowshera district from where he belongs and Swabi district from where Speaker KP Assembly, Asad Qaiser belongs. It is creating unrest among the party ranks, they added.

Whereas other districts including remote and very backward Tank district, which deserves maximum funds, has received very meager share, they observed.

“Undue favour at the expense of more deserving areas has caused regional disparity,” the analysts said.

MNA Khiyal Zaman upholding the allegations said, funds were misused and favorites were getting maximum share while deserving areas were neglected.

He demanded the party leadership to restore KP Ehtesab Commission in its original form and the amendments due to  which its Director General, Gen (Retd) Hamid Khan had resigned, should be repealed.

Similarly, he added, the allegations of corruption made by former Chief of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO), Shakeel Durrani against some bigwigs of the PTI leadership should be investigated by Ehtesab Commission of KP.

The allegations pointed out by former DG KPEC Gen (Retd) Hamid Khan, former PEDO Chief Shakeel Durrani, and former Director Anti-Corruption Establishment, Ziaullah Toru against the corrupt elements should be investigated, by a fully authorized and independent Ehtesab Commission.

Col ® Ameerullah Marwat MNA expressing grave concern over the performance of the PTI government in the province said if the corrective steps were not taken in time, the party would  face the same fate like the ANP and MMA in the next general election.

The unjust distribution of the uplift funds, massive utilization of the discretionary funds by the CM in his home district and those of the Speaker and Education Minister, making the Ehtesab Commission toothless by amending the Ehtesab Bill were few matters of serious concerns for the PTI legislators to be addressed forthright.

The dissident group wants the PTI to progress and flourish in the province through its good governance, decency and across the  board of accountability. “We cannot tolerate the corrupt elements within our ranks and in the government departments,” one of them said.

The political observers believe that intra party bickering would prove disastrous for the PTI in the next elections as Imran Khan is too perturbed over what is going in the province.

Archaeologists rejects Indian research regarding Indus Valley Civilization

Archaeologists rejects Indian research regarding Indus Valley Civilization

ISLAMABAD, Aug 2 (APP): Archaeologists in Pakistan have rejected Indian archaeologists’ research stating that Indus Valley Civilization was 8,000 years old instead of 5,500 and originated from inland proper India proliferated and spread westward from India to the eastern border of Pakistan.

The research was conducted by the researchers of Archeological Survey of India and Indian Institute of Technology and presented through one of prestigious journal ‘Nature’ with title “Indus valley civilization much older than thought”.

Talking to APP, Archeology expert and former Director General of Archeology and Museums, Dr.Fazal Dad Kakar termed this research was based on false facts and was an intellectual aggression on the front of Indus valley civilization.

Dr.Kakar, candidly refused to accept the age of Indus valley
civilization as 8,000 year old and said that somebody surely twisted the reports of the scientists intentionally to create furor academicus, provoking excessive excitement over an intellectual issues.

Researchers most probably were referring to the dates of
antecedents and formative stages of cultures from Mesolithic period through Neolithic (9,000-6,000)in this part of the world which culminated into mature bronze age (300 BC) Indus valley civilization at a date which might be estimated about (2,500-2,400 BC)termed at the sites of Harappa and Moenjodaro as the “Indus valley civilization”, said Dr.kakar.

He said a method of thermoluminescence was used as a means of dating ancient artifacts, particularly the property of some ceramics and other materials of becoming luminescent when pretreated and heated.

This technique was used to date prothery shards of early Harappan time to 6,000 years and early Harappan and Hakra phase as far back as 8,000 years, quoted by Anindya Sarkar of deptt of Geology and Geophysics at IIT-Kharagpur.

He said the statement of the researchers that they have recovered perhaps the oldest pottery from the civilization is misleading.

“They actually recovered pottery from a site but not
civilization as single site which is even not named, do not
constitute neither a culture nor civilization,” he said.

Indian scientist trying to make believe the world that Indus valley civilization is originated from inland proper India proliferated and spread westward from India to the eastern border of Pakistan, comprising of Cholistan and Thar Desert which is wrong.

Dr.Kakar, emphasized that “the basic aim of the Indian team of the scientists had actually set out to prove that the civilization proliferated to other Indian sites like Bhirrana and Rakhigarrhi in Haryana, apart from the known location of Harappa and Moenjodaro in Pakistan, and Lothal, Dholavira and Kalibangan in India”.

He said the Archaeological milieu of the world knows very well that the sites of Balouchistan Plataeu and high land of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, represents all cultural levels such as pastoral, early farming village communities and sedentary urbanized village life.

He added these were the result of process of evolution from the Mesolithic period or stage lasting in this region from about at least 18,000 BC, known from Magdalenian painting and engraving and from some flint tools sites in region, transformed into Neolithic stage (Mehrgarh 9,000-6,000) than Chalecothic and finally to the Mature Bronze Age (3000 BC) stage.

Therefore the Balouchistan Plataeu and high land of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is considered as the homeland for the development of various cultural, social and economic experiment that provided the necessary antecedents and formative stages for the rise of civilization in the Indus valley proper in Pakistan at Harappa and Moenjodro.

While at the later stage of Mature Bronze Age, Indus Civilization expended eastward beyond Saraswati or Gahkkar-Hakra river as attested at the sites of Lothal, Kalibangan and Dholavira etc, in India, he said.
