Do not throw FATA youth into flames of militancy, President FOA tell POA

0

PESHAWAR, July 21 (APP): President FATA Olympic Association Shahid Khan Shinwari has appealed President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt. Gen (Retd) Arif Hassan to extand the fullest and extensive support to FATA youth in order to save them from the effects of militancy.

He said this while addressing a press conference here at Media Center of the Qayyum Sports Complex on Thursday in a response after a press report wherein he quoted Vice President Pakistan Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah as saying that contingent of FATA Olympic Association would not be allowed in the forthcoming National Games until and unless the FATA Olympic Association would hold election within 60 days.

“Why they are involving us in politics as FATA held their election according to the constitution of the POA and FATA Olympic Association well before the election of the Pakistan Olympic Association and even cost their vote,” he added.

Since FOA affiliation with POA in 2011 despite insurgency and militancy the FATA Olympic Association organized numerous sports activities even in FATA with the kind support of President FOA and former Governor Engr. Shaukat Ullah by holding first FATA Youth Games, Shahid said.

He disclosed that they held election with former Governor Engr. Shoukat Ullah, and Engr. Saif Ul Islam elected as Chairman and Secretary General wherein election they have followed POA and FOA constitution and soon after holding the office the FATA Olympic Association have cost their vote in POA election before appearing in the arbitration committee constituted by President POA.

The arbitration committee after going through all constitutional requirements allowed them to set in the POA election. “We have cost our vote in favour of President POA Lt. Gen Arif Hassan,” Shahid disclosed.

Now despite holding election according to the constitution and cost vote in the POA election, how a Vice President of the POA has said that FATA contingent would not be allowed. If we are not legal where the election of POA stands, he questioned.

He said it the legal and constitutional right of the FATA youth to participate in the forthcoming National Games to be organized in Quetta, Balochistan under the supervision of POA for which the FATA Olympic Association would organize two month training and coaching camp.

He disclosed that in the first phase open trials would be organized and in the second phase selection of various teams would be made, following with a camp. He also requested Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engr. Zafar Iqbal Jagra to announce a special grant of Rs. 25 million. He said like in the past FATA Olympic Association with the collaboration of Directorate of Sports FATA and Youth Affairs would provide best facilities like full uniform, TA, DA to the male and female players.

He also requested President POA to increase the number of players in the FATA contingent to 300 instead of 150 or 180 so that maximum numbers of FATA youth could be provide an opportunity to represent FATA in the National Games.
FATA is full of talented and peace loving youth but no attention were paid to them and have been ignored at all level. He also requested Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to announced special package for the development of infrastructure in tribal area so that the FATA youth could be able to come up at national and international levels.

Pakistani Americans observe Black Day in support of Kashmiri people

0

WASHINGTON, July 21 (APP): Pakistanis living in the United States observed “Black Day” on Wednesday to express solidarity with Kashmiri people in the Indian-held Kashmir who are facing yet another wave of violence erupted after the martyrdom of a Kashmiri youth leader at the hands of Indian force early this month.

Pakistani Americans from all sections of the society attended a special ceremony hosted by the Pakistan Embassy in Washington to reiterate diplomatic and political support to the valiant struggle of the Kashmiri people in the occupied valley.

Wearing black band, the participants of the ceremony strongly condemned the fresh wave of violence and urged the world community and the United States to prevent killing of innocent people by the Indian security forces.

The violence has intensified in the occupied valley after the death of Kashmiri freedom fighter Burhan Wani on July 8.

The people of Kashmir turned in thousands to attend his funeral prayer and to protest Indian oppression. Dozens of people including children and women have lost their lives in the most ruthless campaign launched by the Indian security forces in a bid to quell the wave of protest across the valley.

Speaking on the occasion, the HOC Sajid Bilalpaid tributes to the valiant struggle of the Kashmiri people and condemned the brutality unleashed by the Indian troops.

“We salute the people of Jammu & Kashmir who continue to render huge sacrifices for their just cause of freedom from Indian occupation,” he said while reminding the international community that it was India which went to United Nations with the Kashmir dispute. “And it is that country which brazenly continues to defy UNSC Resolutions calling for an impartial plebiscite in the occupied territory.”

He said India has relied on torture and terror against the hapless Kashmiris for refusing to surrender the subjugation. The recent upsurge in the state sponsored violence against innocent civilian protesters in Indian occupied Kashmir has further exposed the tyrannical rule that India has exercised in Kashmir for the past almost seven decades, in shameful violation of a number of UN resolutions, he added.

More than 40 innocent Kashmiris have died and thousands are injured, dozens critically, since Wani’s martyrdom. In an effort to hide its atrocities, India has imposed a complete media blackout in Kashmir.

Copies of newspapers have been confiscated, media offices sealed and journalists arrested. To muzzle the voice of oppressed people, internet and mobile phone services have also been suspended.

The HOC urged the international community to take notice of the culture of impunity, grave human rights violations and state-sponsored terror nurtured by India throughout its illegal rule in Jammu & Kashmir.

“The only acceptable solution to this unspeakable human tragedy lies in the just resolution of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute according to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and according to the United Nations Security Council Resolutions.”

He reiterated Pakistan’s political and diplomatic support to the struggle of the Kashmiri people and said the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will continue to seek peaceful resolution to the Jammu & Kashmir dispute.

Trump says US fix ‘own mess’ before dealing with world

0

NEW YORK, July 21 (APP): Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has said he wants to fix America’s problems before he tackles the issues facing other countries.

“I don’t think we have a right to lecture,” Trump told The New York Times from his hotel suite in Cleveland Wednesday. “Look at what is happening in our country. How are we going to lecture when people are shooting policemen in cold blood?”

During a 45 minute conversation, Trump “explicitly raised new questions about his commitment to automatically defend NATO allies if they are attacked, saying he would first look at their contributions to the alliance,” the Times reported.

Trump spoke about his “America First” foreign policy approach with the Times, underscoring his plans to make the U.S. stronger by, for example, forcing allies to pay for their own defenses instead of the U.S. footing much of the bill.
Regarding the situation in Turkey, where government forces squashed an attempted military coup last weekend, Trump praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“I give great credit to him for being able to turn that around,”
Trump said. “Some people say that it was staged, you know that. I don’t think so.”

Trump said his “America First” policy is not the same isolationist view that dates back before World War II.
“To me, ‘America First’ is a brand new, modern term,” Trump told the Times. I never related it to the past.

“We are going to take care of this country first before we worry about everyone else in the world.”

Trump added the United States must “fix our own mess” before working to fix other nations.

He re emphasized his stance on forcing allies to commit to paying defense costs the United States has shouldered for decades, reviewing longstanding treaties he deems unfavorable and redefining U.S. partnerships. Other countries would adjust, he said. Trump made similar comments in April.

“I think right now when it comes to civil liberties, our country has a lot of problems, and I think it’s very hard for us to get involved in other countries when we don’t know what we are doing and we can’t see straight in our own country,” he said. “Just look about what’s happening with our country. How are we going to lecture when people are shooting our policemen in cold blood. How are we going to lecture when you see the riots and the horror going on in our own country.”

Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s campaign pounced on Trump’s comments Thursday morning, reiterating the campaign’s position the Trump is “temperamentally unfit and fundamentally ill prepared to be our commander in chief.”

“For decades, the United States has given an ironclad guarantee to our NATO allies: We will come to their defence if they are attacked, just as they came to our defense after 9/11. Donald Trump was asked if he would honor that guarantee. He said … maybe, maybe not,” Senior Policy Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a statement. “The president is supposed to be the leader of the free world. Donald Trump apparently doesn’t even believe in the free world.”

UN Security Council must consult wider membership on issues: Maleeha

0

UNITED NATIONS, July 20 (APP): Pakistan has underscored the need for the United Nations Security Council to hold dialogue on issues with the wider UN membership before making decisions to ensure the 15-member body’s openness, transparency and accountability.

“Member States not serving on the Council have high stakes in its decisions,” Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi said in a debate on the Working Methods of the Security Council on Tuesday.

The Pakistani envoy welcomed gradual improvements in the Council’s working methods, especially since 2006.

This year’s early election of non-permanent Council members was a positive step that would help them play a more robust and effective role during their tenure.

Ambassador Lodhi emphasized the crucial need for dialogue with the wider United Nations membership.

Troop- and police-contributing countries must be closely consulted prior to the formulation and approval of peacekeeping mandates.

Doing so would address many issues while helping to synchronize peacekeeping missions with realities on the ground, she said.

Much remained to be done to ensure deeper and meaningful consultations in all aspects of peacekeeping.

“As a leading troop contributing country, Pakistan believes much needs to be done to ensure deeper and meaningful consultations in all aspects of peacekeeping”.

Turning to the subsidiary bodies, the Pakistani envoy called for transparent processes and balanced representation on expert panels, adding that there was no reason to limit the scope of the Office of the Ombudsman to just one sanctions committee.

Nawaz Sharif supported Kashmiris undeterred in all tenures

0

ISLAMABAD July 20 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had extended continued and unflinching support to Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination and raised the issue at all international forums during his three tenures in the government.

Whether it was United Nations General Assembly, Organization of Islamic Cooperation or any other regional or international forum, the Prime Minister had been pleading the just cause of Kashmiri people for cessation of Indian brutalities and giving them the right to decide their future.

There are glaring examples of commitment and dedication
manifested through the words of the Prime Minister who have always been persuading the international community to resolve the Kashmir issue and fulfill their commitment for implementation of the UN resolutions.

Like his past two tenures as Prime Minister, in his present
tenure he also tried to jolt the international conscience when he stated at United Nations, “more than six decades ago the UN passed resolutions to hold plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir and the people of Jammu and Kashmir are still waiting the fulfillment of that promise. Many generations of Kashmiris have lived their lives under Indian occupation accompanied by violence and abuse of their fundamental rights. Kashmiri women in particular have suffered
immensely.”

He said that for decades attempts have been made under the UN auspices and bilaterally in the spirit of Lahore Declaration to resolve this dispute. The core issue of Jammu and Kashmir has to be resolved and it is responsibility of the international community. “We cannot draw a veil on the Kashmir issue unless it is resolved according to wishes of Kashmiri people.”

On another occasion, the Prime Minister had said, India has
occupied the Kashmir with use of force and Pakistan will continue moral, diplomatic and political support of their struggle for right to self-determination. “We believe it is indigenous struggle but India wants to crush it with force. Hurryet leadership and Pakistan condemn their brutalities as India is targeting the innocent people who cannot be declared extremists.”

He said India had deployed over 700,000 armed forces in the valley to crush the movement and it is obligatory on us to stand by Kashmiri bothers. “For the last 60 years, Kashmiris are waging struggle for their just right despite Indian atrocities. Their courage and determination manifest that their destination is not far off.”

During his second tenure in the government, Prime Minister
Nawaz Sharif had stated, “We believe that a just settlement of Jammu and Kashmir issue will usher a new era of amity and progress in South Asia. I offer to open negotiations on a treaty of non-aggression between India and Pakistan.”

On another occasion, he said, Pakistan is sincere to resolve
disputes with India including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir and the United Nations must fulfill its responsibility to the Kashmir dispute to defuse tension and bring an end to the arms race in the region.

The Prime Minister had stated that unfortunately true peace
has been a stranger to South Asia because the root cause of
Kashmir is still unresolved. “We have initiated the dialogue
process with India and we hope India will respond positively.”

He had stated that human rights are universal and they cannot be applied selectively. “We are asking for nothing more than right to self-determination to Kashmiri people. They have been victim to appalling repression and being denied to the right committed to them by Pakistan, India and the United Nations.”

Speaking at another forum, the Prime Minister had stated
that unfortunately the security environment in South Asia had been precarious because of the tension emanating from Jammu and Kashmir. “I regret to say that in this age when nations recognize right to self-determination, Indian forces are killing Kashmiri people.”

He had stated, “Pakistan will never abandon the cause of
Kashmir and continue their support in order to redeem their right to self-determination. I have invited the Indian Prime Minister to restore the stalled dialogue for resolving outstanding issue including Kashmir.

Speaking on another occasion, the Prime Minister had said,
Pakistan always tried to tell India that regional peace and
progress could only be achieved by settling the outstanding issue.

“Pakistan repeatedly told India to the voice of Kashmiris because they are peaceful people and if they are waging a struggle it is due to denial of their just right.”

Nawaz Sharif had also invited the attention of international
community by saying that India was hoodwinking them through malicious propaganda but it could enslave Kashmiris for long with their genocide and use of force. “India should end brutalities in Kashmir and hold dialogue. But, holding dialogue does not mean that on one side they engage in talks and on the other hand continue genocide of innocent Kashmiris.”

Addressing a gathering on another time, the Prime Minister
had stated that Kashmiris are close to his heart and he loves them like he loves Pakistani people. “India is responsible for arms race in South Asia and Pakistan had to compete for its self-defense. I have urged the UNSG to ask India why they were refusing to implement the UN resolutions. On contrary, Pakistan always honored the United Nations.”

During his first tenure also, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
had been persuading India to halt hostilities in Kashmir and
instead fulfill its commitments to the United Nations to give
Kashmiris their right to self-determination. “With the resolution of these issues between the two countries, people on both sides of the border will have better opportunities to lead a prosperous life.”

He had also been rejecting the Indian allegation of
interference and said, Pakistan was only extending them political, moral and diplomatic support that is their right for a just cause.
