ISLAMABAD, July 17 (APP): Minister for Information,
Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid
Sunday said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would go to the public in 2018 on the basis of his performance whereas Imran Khan would have nothing but a baggage of conspiracies and nefarious designs.

The minister, in a statement, said the Pakistan Muslim
League-N government firmly believed in serving the masses and would succeed in 2018 general elections on the basis of its performance.

On the other hand, he said, Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf
chief Imran Khan would be looking for undemocratic forces.

He said Imran was wailing over the pro-democratic
passion of the Pakistani nation. He had been appealing to
the people for 126 days to join his ‘dharna’ (sit-in), but
the people supported the democratic system, he added.

Pervaiz Rashid said the undemocratic forces appeared in
the guise of Imran Khan. If the PTI chief had worked
hard for his political party contrary to his undemocratic
tendencies, it would have been a different story.

He expressed his wonder over Imran Khan’s postures and
asked him why he had been worrying over failure of a coup in Turkey.

The minister further told the PTI chief that power could
not be gained through back-door politics, but in the
democratic system, one had to serve the public instead of
enjoying an extravagant life-style at Bani Gala.

July 21 – day of victory for ‘lion’ in AJK: Pervaiz

0
Petition filed by PTI in Supreme Court has no new allegation

RAWALAKOT (AJK), July 17 (APP): Minister for Information,
Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Sunday said July 21 would be the day of victory for ‘lion’ in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections which would bring progress and prosperity to the people.

He was speaking at an event organized to welcome Sayab Khalid, former speaker of AJK legislative assembly and a group of political workers in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He congratulated Sayab Khalid and others on joining the party.

He said being as Prime Minister and leader of the elected PML-N government in AJK, the voice of Nawaz Sharif would become part of continuing struggle of Kashmiris for right to self-determination, then it would be more effective and strong freedom movement.

He said Nawaz Sharif would be an advocate of Kashmiris’ right of self-determination.

“When the world will know that Nawaz Sharif has government in Pakistan as well as in Azad Kashmir, then India will have to bow before the will of the people.

“As gun bowed before people in Turkey in the same way it will bow before the people in Srinagar whose voice will be heard everywhere.”

He said after retirement of Sardar Abdul Qayyum from practical politics, there were complaints against the working of Sardar Attique, whose politics was just based on ‘palace intrigues’ and not to serve the people.

When Sardar Attique continued with this kind of politics of
intrigue against the party’s own Prime Minister, then on the wishes of party leaders and workers, AJK PML-N was formed, he added.

He said PML-N politics was not about intrigues or for gaining
power but its politics was about serving the people.

The picture of its politics was clear before people as it was
about development projects and facilities of hospitals, education and jobs, he said.

When people in Pakistan think about mega projects, name of
Nawaz Sharif comes to their mind, he added.

“When people of Pakistan stamp lion they get a guarantee of
progress.”

He said the PML-N had a manifesto and its federal and provincial governments played their roles in development of the country.

He said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto came to Kashmir and
criticised the PML-N and Nawaz Sharif.

“It is his right to raise questions about the policies of my
party. But it is also his responsibility to tell about their own
performance.”

He said the PPP remained in power in AJK and at the Center for five years and for eight years in Sindh.

Bilawal should tell what the PPP had done in Sindh and AJK to
ask for votes in the upcoming elections in Azad Kashmir, he stressed.

Pervaiz Rashid said the policy of Nawaz Sharif on Kashmir was clear as stated by him in the UN General Assembly. The Prime Minister shook the world conscience and reminded them to implement the UN resolutions on Kashmir, he added.

He said Bilawal never asked question about Kashmir and he
should tell whether his party’s policy was to wage war for 1000 years or to sign Shimla agreement.

Imran Khan had no Kashmir policy and when he went to India to watch a cricket match, he did not raise the Kashmir issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister recalled.

Pervaiz Rashid said Nawaz Sharif stressed on Kashmir issue
during his meetings with the Indian Prime Minister.
He said when they made pledges about utilising all resources
for bringing progress in Kashmir, filling its treasury and providing its people with education and health facilities, this all was about implementing the vision of Nawaz Sharif.

When the PPP transferred power at the Center it left only $3
billion, now the federal government of PML-N had $23 billion in its reserves, he added.

He said Imran Khan did not have a programme for Azad Kashmir and he could not cite any example of his achievement except killing rats in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.

He urged people to remain alert on the election day and
protect sanctity of their vote.

‘Lion’ roaring from Bhimber to Tao Butt in AJK: Kirmani

'Lion' roaring from Bhimber to Tao Butt in AJK: Kirmani

RAWALAKOT, Jul 17 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on
Political Affairs Dr Asif Kirmani Sunday said ‘lion’ was roaring
from Bhimber to Tao Butt during the election campaign in Azad Kashmir.

Addressing a meeting of party workers here, he said, “With the grace of Allah, today all roads of Azad Kashmir leads to PML-N. It is simple for people that they support Nawaz Sharif who is the architect of a modern and progressing Pakistan.”

He said Nawaz Sharif had a vision to bring same kind of
progress in Kashmir, which he brought in Pakistan.

Kirmani said he went all across Kashmir and could see that
Peoples Party and PTI could not even begin their election campaign.

These parties cannot survive without being in power as they do not have an election manifesto or record of service to the people, he added.

He said credit went to Pakistan Muslim League(N) that it
spread the vision of Nawaz Sharif for progress, prosperity and development of Kashmir.

The PML-N, he said, was the first party with a manifesto while other parties could not even give their manifesto in the previous months.

He said Abdul Majeed government and others had only one point agenda and that was to serve their own interest and fill their pockets.

Rs 300 billion was given by the federal government to AJK
government but that money had not been spent for the development of the area, he added.

He said the PPP and others had weakened the Kashmir cause
and sent a message across the LoC that a corrupt and incompetent government was in AJK.

Kirmani said at a time when the Modi government was killing
Kashmiris in held valley, Abdul Majeed government was doing the same in Azad Kashmir.

They killed workers of PML-N and injured the party candidate
Chaudhry Aziz with bullets, he added.

“Their stories of corruption can be seen everywhere and their agenda is to kill Kashmiris to save themselves from disgraceful defeat in elections.”

He said the PML-N was a party with leaders who had character and values.

“Real thing is character of a human being. Nawaz Sharif has
taught us the politics of values.”

He said the message of Nawaz Sharif was of peace as the PML-N had a very different culture from other parties.

“I tell my party workers that we should not be provoked and
keep campaigning with bowed heads. I urge party workers not to respond to abuse and threatening language of the opponents. We told our workers to stay peaceful and calm.”

He said,”We asked the Chief Election Commissioner to take
notice as it is his responsibility to hold elections in a peaceful
environment.”

The CEC did not take notice for two days and then afterwards came on television, he said adding hearts of people could be win with love and not with abuse and bullets.

He said the progress of Pakistan and Kashmir were interlinked and the bridge of Kohala joined hearts of people.
Nawaz Sharif wanted a bridge to join together Kashmiris across the Line of Control so that relatives on both sides can meet and share their happiness and grief, he added.

The Advisor said everybody has a right to do politics but for
six months Imran Khan stayed on the container, stopped the way of progress and prosperity of Pakistan and delayed the visit of Chinese President to Pakistan.

He said Pakistan gave respect to Imran Khan but he became
enemy of progress of Pakistan so he could not be the well wisher of Kashmir.

Pakistan, China to boost mango industry through joint efforts: Chinese expert

PESHAWAR July 17 (APP): Chairman Regional Standing Committee on Horticulture Export of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Ahmad Jawad has said the mango exporters failed to capitalize the opportunity despite zero percent duty on Pakistani
mangoes in the recent GSP-status by the US government.

Jawad said “the opening of new markets will only benefit us
if we are ready; being a unique taste and rich aroma, we still
confined our product in the city of Dallas for the last few years which is unfortunate”, said in a statement here Sunday.

“We understand that lengthy procedure hampers the process
in order to increase the mango volumes and export of mangoes could be enhanced manifold by establishing a reliable phyto-sanitary certification and inspection system to meet international standards.”

He said in last summer we had a series of discussions with the US Embassy officials and our Ministry of Commerce to find out the way to approve the local irradiation facility which was established at Lahore to give another option for the exporters in order to minimize the cost.

He said due to some financial constrains that options was not properly pursed and added “even today if commerce ministry sent a formal letter to the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA) officials for the inspection of our local irradiation facility with the name of ‘Paras Foods’ and request the appointment of quarantine inspector too, then I think it works as a alternative option which
helps to increase the mango volume.”

FPCCI Standing Committee Chief further said last year around 184 tons of Pakistani mangoes were exported to the US which is nothing.

He suggested the ‘Trade Development Authority of Pakistan’
may conduct a Pakistani mango festival in different parts of US to encourage the buyers and strengthen the business to business contacts so that buyers may take the benefit from the concessionary tariff and it also helps to give new push in
US Pakistan trade relation.

It may be recalled that mango exports to the US received
approval in 2010 and the first sample shipment sent by Pakistan Horticulture Development Export Company (PHDEC) for the official ceremony was well-acknowledged there in the diplomatic and political circles.

A look at 46 year parliamentary trail of AJK LA

0
AJK Legislative Assembly and Council joint sitting summoned

By Muhammad Aslam & M. Shafique Raja

MUZAFFARABAD, July 17 (APP): The parliamentary system in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is going to get further maturity as people of the State are all set to exercise their right to vote on July 21 and elect their representatives for the 10th democratic tenure of the 49 seat Legislative Assembly in almost 46 years since 1970.

The first AJK government, established on October 24, 1947 was working like a ‘war council’ under the Rules of Business to run the administration of the state, with all executive and legislative authority vested in the president.

The democratic setup was introduced in 1970 under the
presidential system on the basis of adult franchise when Sardar Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Khan took over the charge of first elected President as head of the government and state as well.

For the first time, the AJK people and the refugees of Jammu
and Kashmir settled in Pakistan exercised their right to vote and elected the Legislative Assembly, consisted of 24 members and one co opted lady member, and the president, which worked for four years, according to the official data available with APP.

Later in 1974, some major constitutional changes were made when the interim constitution Act, 1974, was adopted and Parliamentary system of democracy was introduced in the state.

The first elected Assembly completed its tenure and approved 56 bills mostly pertaining to religious matters and public importance, besides passing several resolutions for welfare of the public.

The second Assembly came into existence in 1975 under the
Interim Constitution Act, 1974, which has undergone 11 amendments so far. For the first time in the history of AJK Parliamentary system was introduced and Prime Minister, as the executive head of the state, was elected by majority votes of the assembly. Khan Abdul Hameed Khan was elected as first Prime Minister of AJK and Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan as President. The Assembly consisted of 42 members, among them 40 members were elected by the people of AJK and refugees settled in Pakistan, and two co opted ladies members.

The Assembly worked for two years and was suspended in August 1977, due to the enforcement of Martial Law in Pakistan.

This house, in a short span of two years, worked diligently
and showed tremendous results by approving 51 bills and passed the resolutions on Kashmir issue and on many other matters concerning the public.

On dissolution of the Assembly, Brigadier Muhammad Hayat Khan was appointed as Chief Executive on October 31, 1978, who remained in office up to January 31, 1983 with all the exclusive powers.

Later, Maj. General ® Abdul Rehman was appointed as
President/ Chief Executive on February 1, 1983 and continued till September 30, 1985.

The democratic system remained suspended up to 1985, when the Martial Law was lifted and civil setup was established in Pakistan.

Following which, the elections for AJK LA were held and Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan took over the charge as the Prime Minister and Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan as the President of the state.

This Assembly was elected for five years and worked till 1990.
During the given mandated democratic term, it approved 109 bills and passed resolutions on various subjects. The constitution was amended and six more seats of the assembly were approved. It contained 48 members out of which 40 members were elected and 8 seats were reserved for the members elected by the assembly. Five seats were reserved forladies, one for technocrats, one for Overseas Kashmiris and one for Ulema and Mashaikh.

The elections for fourth Assembly were held in 1990. Raja
Mumtaz Hussain Rathore was elected as Prime Minister while Sardar Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Khan elected as the President.

The government remained in power only for one year because the then Prime Minister dissolved the assembly, which could not make any legislation except passing resolutions on various subjects including the Kashmir issue.

The fifth assembly took birth 1991. Sardar Muhammad Abdul
Qayyum Khan was elected as the Prime Minister and Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan as the President. This Assembly completed its five year tenure, during which the legislators worked tremendously and approved 145 bills and passed the resolutions on Kashmir and other matters of public importance.

During the period, many delegations of different countries,
especially America, Britain and other European countries visited Azad Kashmir.

Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan became the prime minister and president, respectively as a result of the general elections held in 1996.
The AJK LA approved 44 bills and passed many resolutions about Kashmir issue and other public concerning matters.

The seventh Assembly came into being on July 5, 2001, and
elected Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan as Prime Minister and Maj. General ® Sardar Mohammad Anwar Khan as President by the joint sitting of the assembly and council.

This assembly approved 78 bills and has the honour of having been addressed (joint sessions of Assembly and Council) by the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan on various occasions. The house made amendment in the constitution and approved one more seat, bringing the total number of legislatures from 48 to 49.

The general election for Eighth Assembly were held on July 11, 2006 , which elected Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan as the Prime Minister and Raja Zulqarnain Khan as the President.

During this tenure, people of AJK witnessed several but rare
in house changes for the prime minister, as from January 7, 2009 to October 22, 2009 Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan was elected as the prime minister, from October 23, 2009 to July 29, 2010 Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan remained the prime minister and then again Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan was elected as the prime minister from July 29, 2010 to July 6, 2011.

The general elections for the ninth and current outgoing
assembly were held on June 26, 2011, following which Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was elected the Prime Minister and Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan as President.

Now, the people of Kashmir are going to elect their
representatives for the 10th assembly on July 21. Tough contest is expected among AJK’s major political parties, including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Azad Kashmir All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference coalition.

As many as 427 candidates, belonging to various political
parties as well as independent ones are in the run for the upcoming AJK Legislative Assembly elections.

According to the final list issued by the AJK Election
Commission 328 contestants will be vying from 29 constituencies of AJK’s nine districts, while 99 will be competing from 12 constituencies of Kashmiri refugees, spread over four provinces of Pakistan.

Profile Picture

ISLAMABAD, July 17 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal said Sunday all the conspiracies being hatched against the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government would fail
as the country was leading towards progress and development.

The minister, in a statement, said he was astonished to see a sponsored campaign against the PML-N government by some elements having vested interests.

“Those who have failed politically, now want civil and military confrontation for their ulterior motives,” he said, adding the people could see and feel that the country was gradually improving and getting better.

“The direction is right and we need to keep marching with stability and consistency of policies,” he added.

The minister said when the PML-N government took office in 2013, Pakistan was titled as most dangerous country in the world by Newsweek on its cover, however, today Pakistan was seen as an Emerging Market and was rated among top eight fastest growing economies of world.

He said Pakistan was seen as a sick economy likely to default in 2014 with falling ratings in 2013 but today Moody’s and Standard and Poors world’s leading rating agencies have upgraded Pakistan and rate it as a stable and positive economy.

He said in 2013, Pakistan’s stock market had crashed today, by crossing 39,000 index, it was at all time high while in in 2013, Pakistan was stuck for six years at 2.5-3.5% GDP rate and last year we posted 4.7% GDP growth rate and hoping for 5.5% this year while the country is at highest growth level in last eight years.

The minister said in 2008, Pakistan was delisted from Emerging Market Index. In 2016, it had been again relisted by Morgan Stanley as an Emerging Market.

Likewise in 2013, he said, when the PML-N took over extremists had made the state hostage and they were on offensive, today state was on offensive and terrorists were under siege. Karachi security operation, started in
September 2013 by the Prime Minister, had today given peace back to the mega city, the financial capital. Pakistan’s security situation was best in last ten years.

The minister said no foreign investor was willing to bring a dollar into Pakistan back in 2013, but during 2015 the PML-N government attracted $46b CPEC investment from China, which had been acclaimed as a game changer for Pakistan by experts.

During last 14 years, he added, no worthwhile investment was made in energy, however due to the PML-N government initiatives more than 10,000 mw would be added to grid by 2018 and another 15,000 mw was in pipeline for addition by 2025.

He said the PML-N government had initiated and committed the highest ever investment for modernising Pakistan’s energy (coal, hydel, renewable, gas projects) road, rail & air infrastructure, which wouldl transform
the economy in next few years.

The minister said in 2013, the PML-N inherited sick and dysfunctional railway and PIA and now locomotives and planes had been procured and both organisations were on path of recovery.

He said in 2013, when the PML-N came into government investments into higher education had been cut while today, the highest ever investments of Rs 80 billion were being made in higher education through HEC to give “our youth knowledge and skills of future economy. 10,000 Ph.Ds in next ten years programme through US-Pak Knowledge Corridor has been started.”

The Pakistan Economic Watch (PEW), a reputed international survey organisation, in its latest poll said that after over fifteen years for the first time majority of Pakistanis are feeling optimist about their future and think that next year will be better than previous year. Nation has got hope back, he added.

The minister said he could go on and on with the stories of successes the PML-N government had achieved in a limited time of threeyears while the world economy was facing major slow down.

This was not to say that there are no challenges and problems, he said. “We would tackle each and every problem step by step and are committed to see Pakistan in top 25 economies of the world by 2025.”

He said the government has already prepared Vision 2025 document to lead the country towards development.

“Let us defeat the voices which want to kill our hope and pride. Pakistan is rising and rise In Sha Allah to glory unseen in history. We need to stand united, defend our political stability and commit ourselves to working harder, better and smarter.”

Trump names Indiana governor Pence as his VP and ‘partner’ to rebuild US

NEW YORK, July 16 (APP): Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said Saturday that Indiana Governor Mike Pence would be “my partner” in a fight to change the United States by rebuilding the manufacturing sector at home and fighting terrorism from abroad.

“We are in a rigged, rigged system,” Trump said in unveiling his new running mate during a Saturday event in New York City.

Pence, who spoke after nearly 30 minutes of Trump talking more about himself than his new running mate, described himself as he frequently does, as “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican in that order.”

In thanking Trump for his appointment, the Indiana governor described the New York businessman as a “builder,” a “fighter,” and a “patriotic American” who will bring “no nonsense leadership” to Washington, D.C.

Hitting another major theme of the campaign, Pence drew a standing ovation from Trump supporters when he declared that the main reason he accepted the offer is “because Hillary Clinton can never become president
of the United States.”

The formal introduction came a day after the Republican candidate had planned to make it. Trump had postponed the event after the terrorist attack in the French city of Nice, and amid reports that he was wavering on the Pence pick.

Pushing back on those reports, Trump said Saturday Pence was “my first choice” for the running mate slot.

Contrasting his new running mate with his Democratic election opponent, Trump said Pence is “a man of honour,” while “Hillary Clinton is the embodiment of corruption.”

There appeared to be as many Trump supporters as journalists in attendance at the announcement, as the businessman’s backers filled five rows of seats in a Hilton ballroom that was not expanded to its full size.

Trump picked Pence in part because of the governor’s popularity with religious conservatives. In introducing him, the nominee in waiting made sure to speak at length about changing a federal law that bars churches from engaging in political activity.

In praising Pence’s record, Trump also said that “one of the big reasons I chose Mike is party unity, I have to be honest.”

Trump introduced Pence two days before the start of the Republican convention in Cleveland. Saying that “we’re going to have an incredible convention,” the candidate also taunted “Never Trump” opponents who failed to change the voting rules in a bid to somehow derail his nomination.
“They got crushed,” Trump said.

After the joint appearance with Trump at the New York Hilton Midtown, Pence flew back for a “welcome home rally” in Zionsville, Indiana, an event Trump was not scheduled to attend.

In an interview with Fox News, Pence downplayed or reversed past differences he has had with Trump.

The Indiana governor, who had criticized the businessman for his proposed temporary ban on Muslim entry into the United States, told Fox News “I am very supportive of Donald Trump’s call to temporarily suspend immigration from countries where terrorists (have) influence.”
