SC seeks complete plan for rehabilitation of schools in KPK

ISLAMABAD, Apr 09 (APP):The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday sought a complete plan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province for the rehabilitation of schools affected in 2005 earthquake.
The court also directed to inform the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa about the court orders regarding the rehabilitation work.
During hearing, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that work is done day and night to build underpasses, but why is the same not done for the rehabilitation of schools.
A five-member bench presided by Justice Amin Ud Din Khan heard the case pertaining to the rehabilitation of schools affected by the 2005 earthquake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Secretary Finance, Secretary Education and Secretary Planning and Works of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appeared in the court.
During the hearing, Justice Amin Ud Din Khan, while addressing to the provincial secretaries, said that we are aware of your busy schedule. He said that the children are studying under trees, adding that matters should be handled at the government level.
The Secretary Education said that more than 3,000 schools were affected by the earthquake but due to funds problem it has been delay.
The KPK Finance Secretary told the court that funds have been given after approval from the provincial cabinet on April 4. The Secretary Communication and Works said that we have received the funds and the work of rehabilitating 49 schools remains.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that why is work not done in double shifts or in three shifts for the rehabilitation of schools as the the construction of underpasses or bypasses is done in double or triple shifts.
The Secretary Communication and Works told the court that funds worth Rs 1231 million have been released.
The court sought complete plan of rehabilitation work of schools and adjourned hearing for indefinite time.
