President Zardari reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to upholding fundamental rights, human dignity

ISLAMABAD, Aug 18 (APP):President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed commitment to protecting the fundamental rights and dignity of every individual, as guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973 and the human rights treaties ratified by Pakistan.
In a message on the Occasion of World Humanitarian Day being observed on August 19, the president said on World Humanitarian Day, Pakistan joined the international community in honouring the courage, selflessness and dedication of humanitarian workers who served on the frontlines during natural disasters, emergencies and crises.
“As we observe World Humanitarian Day 2026, I extend my appreciation to all social workers, counsellors, healthcare providers, child protection workers and humanitarian personnel serving across Pakistan. Their dedication reminds us of the responsibility we share to assist those in need and to ensure that no one is left without support in times of crisis,” he said, adding their swift response, contribution to relief and rehabilitation and commitment to helping people in distress, often in difficult and dangerous conditions, deserved deepest appreciation.
“We are grateful to humanitarian workers who, alongside civil society, security forces and ordinary citizens, remain prepared to respond when communities face emergencies,” President Secretariat Media Wing, in a press release, quoted him as saying.
The president said their timely assistance and compassion provided essential support to people who were most vulnerable during such times.
Humanitarian workers played an important role in helping communities withstand crises and recover from them, he said, adding their work reflects the values of compassion and respect for human dignity.
The president further observed that through organised and professional assistance, they helped strengthened the support systems available to people affected by violence, displacement, hunger, poverty, disability and marginalisation.
