ISLAMABAD, Feb 19 (APP):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy snowfall that may cause road closures and slippery conditions in hilly areas from the night of February 19 to the morning of February 21.
The snowfall is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli.
The PMD has indicated the possibility of landslides and avalanches in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat during this period.
The tourists have been advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
Widespread intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in upper Punjab, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy rain and snowfall are likely at isolated places, with a chance of hailstorm in the Pothohar region and northeast Punjab. Cloudy weather with intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad. There is also a possibility of an isolated hailstorm.
Intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and Kohat.
Heavy rain and snowfall are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, and Mansehra. Intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are expected in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Mangla, Attock, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh.
Murree and Galliyat are expected to experience cloudy weather with intermittent rain and snowfall.
Dry weather is expected in most districts of Sindh. Cold and dry weather will prevail in most districts of Balochistan.
Cloudy weather with intermittent rain and snowfall is expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy rain and snowfall may occur in isolated areas. Rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred in North Balochistan, central and southern Punjab, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Jacobabad.
Cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed in other parts of the country.
The recorded rainfall in millimeters includes Sibbi 12mm, Quetta (Sheikh Manda 12, Samungli 07), Barkhan, Zhob 05, Kalat 02 in Balochistan; Bahawalpur (City, AP 05), Kot Addu 05, Multan (City, AP 03), Khanpur 03, Layyah 02, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Khanewal, Toba Tek Singh 01 in Punjab; Jacobabad 03 in Sindh; and Bannu 01 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The lowest recorded minimum temperatures in degrees Celsius are Leh -08, Kalam, Parachinar -03, Astore, Malam Jabba, Chitral -01, Ziarat, Hunza, and Skardu 00.
The authorities advised the residents and tourists to take necessary precautions, remain updated on weather conditions, and avoid risky travel during this period.
