ISLAMABAD, Apr 24 (APP):A high-level delegation from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Steering Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Agenda 2026 visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on Thursday, in conjunction with the 6th OIC Steering Committee meeting hosted by the COMSTECH Secretariat.
The delegation, comprising senior officials from prominent scientific and research institutions of OIC member states-including Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, and Uganda – was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar,
Rector of CUI, along with senior university officials.
During the visit, delegates toured the university’s picturesque Islamabad campus, exploring key facilities such as the Junaid Zaidi Central Library and the Khad-o-Khal Art Gallery, where they viewed an engaging exhibition of Islamic calligraphy.
A comprehensive briefing session was also arranged to showcase CUI’s academic and research strengths and its role in advancing science and technology in the Islamic world.
CUI officials highlighted the university’s active involvement in OIC collaborative programs, particularly as the host of the Inter Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT).
The university has significantly contributed to capacity building across the Islamic world through initiatives in fields like Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Materials, and Medical Devices.
As a member of the COMSTECH Consortium of Centres of Excellence, CUI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting educational development across the OIC community by offering 100 postgraduate scholarships to students from OIC member countries.
The key members of the delegation included Dr. Hasan Basri Arsalan, Professional Officer, OIC Secretary General’s Cabinet; Mr. Arman Tynybek, OIC General Secretariat; Amb. Khusrav Noziri, Assistant Director General, Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS); Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, IOFS; Mr. Murtaza Noor, Coordinator COMSTECH; Syed Tahir Mahmud, SESRIC; Mr. Ihsan Ovut, Secretary General, SMIIC; Mr. Achraf Hidri, Director, OIC UNA; Prof. Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, Rector, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU); Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Technology (IUT); and Ms. Kinza Ashraf from the COMSTECH Secretariat.
The visit marked a strengthening of academic and research collaboration among OIC member states and underscored CUI’s strategic role in fostering innovation-driven development across the Islamic world.
