NHA working on dozen of new road projects in KP

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP):National Highway Authority (NHA) has been working on a dozen of new road infrastructure projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and most of them are being built in less developed areas.
Talking to APP on Tuesday, an NHA official said the authority had been striving to construct highways and motorways networks in less developed areas of the country.
The ongoing NHA projects in the KP, he said, would open new vistas of opportunities for the people of adjacent areas and end sense of deprivation among the people of far flung areas of the country.
Giving details of the allocations made for the NHA projects under the Public Sector Development Programme in the current fiscal year, he said Rs500 million had been allocated for the construction of 67 km Chitral-Garam Chashma Road out of which Rs 350 million had been released so far.
The official said Rs300 million had also been earmarked for 48 km Chitral-Bumborate road and by now Rs130 million had been released.
He said for dualization of a section of Indus Highway from Sarai Gambila to Kohat, Rs 2000 million which had been released.
The NHA official said Rs1,500 million had been earmarked for the Lowari Tunnel and its access roads and Rs61,050 million released till date. For the 32 km Peshawar Northern Bypass, Rs3500 million had been earmarked out of which Rs700 million had been released so far, he added.
For Havelian-Thakot section of Hazara Motorway, Rs19,500 million had been earmarked out of which Rs1,500 million had been released.
He said as far as dualization and upgradation of Old Bannu Road was concerned, out of Rs 3000 allocate for the project, Rs 1525 had been released.
He said for dualization of 210 km Yarik-Zhob section, Rs7,000 million had been earmarked and so far 610 million released.
The official said Rs516 million had been released for rehabilitation and national highways network affected by floods. A total of Rs3,041 million had been allocated for this project and Chakdara-Kalam road, Mansehra-Chilas road and Razmak-Peshawar road were being rehabilitated under this programme.
He said for Hakla-D I Khan project falling in KP and Punjab Rs25,000 million had been earmarked and so far Rs18,000 million released while for land acquisition of affected properties and relocation of utilities Rs2,500 million had been allocated and Rs1,000 million released.
He said for Chitral-Shandur road, which forms part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), allocated Rs10 million had been released.
