ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): Maldives on Tuesday expressed its desire to seek counter terrorism training from Pakistan besides enhancing cooperation in diversifying fields.
At a meeting held between Minister of Defence and National
Security of Maldives Adam Shareef Umar with Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the visiting dignitary showed interest to seek training in the counter terrorism field.
According to a press release, while welcoming the visiting
dignitary, Khawaja Muhammad Asif highlighted the importance of Maldives among SAARC countries and the role being played by Maldives in regional and global scenarios.
The bilateral relations between the two countries were based
on common religion, culture and principle of respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Adam Shareef Umar while reciprocating the sentiments said
that both countries enjoy excellent bilateral relations based on mutual trust, confidence and commonality of views on various regional and international issues.
He pointed out that exchange of high level visits and regular
meetings are instrumental in strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen and diversify their
existing bilateral defence relations to include counter terrorism cooperation besides further enhancing and availing training courses by personnel of Armed Forces of Maldives in the training institutions of Pakistan and holding of regular joint seminars to learn from each other’s experiences.
