The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has intensified its campaign against power theft across its service territory, imposing fines exceeding Rs8.5 million during the current month.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP): The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has intensified its campaign against power theft across its service territory, imposing fines exceeding Rs8.5 million during the current month.
IESCO teams, in coordination with police, were conducting extensive inspections against illegal connections, direct supply, meter bypassing and tampering, said a press release issued on Thursday.
IESCO Chief Executive Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood said that the company was using modern technology alongside conventional checking to curb power theft and reduce line losses.
He said the installation of AMI meters on industrial-tariff connections and across Rawalpindi City and Rawalpindi Cantt, along with scanning meters on transformers and high-loss feeders, was yielding positive results.
Mahmood stated that 91 power theft cases were detected in September 2026, with fines exceeding Rs8.5 million. Applications for 91 FIRs have been submitted to the relevant police stations, while several illegal connections have also been disconnected.
He said that since the launch of the anti-power-theft campaign in September 2023, 7,246 power thieves have been fined more than Rs. 620 million, while 3,330 have been arrested.
The IESCO Chief Executive warned power thieves to immediately abandon the illegal practice or face legal action. He also urged consumers to report power theft through the IESCO helpline 118.
