ISLAMABAD, Feb 26 (APP):Intermittent widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are expected across various regions of the country on Thursday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain and snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper and central Punjab, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms.
Heavy rain and snowfall may cause road closures and slippery conditions in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli from tonight until February 28.
Landslides are also possible in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat during the forecast period. Tourists have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in areas experiencing heavy snowfall or rainfall.
More intermittent rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas, with heavy rainfall and possible hailstorms at night.
In Punjab, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Chakwal, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore, and nearby areas may experience intermittent rain and thunderstorms, with heavy snowfall in Murree and Galliyat.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to witness widespread rain and thunderstorms with snowfall over hills, affecting Dir, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Kohat, and surrounding districts, with heavy snowfall and hailstorms at a few locations.
In Sindh, mostly dry weather is expected, with partly cloudy skies in upper districts, while light rain or drizzle may occur in some areas.
Rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall over hills, are expected in Balochistan, particularly in Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, and surrounding regions, while cold and partly cloudy conditions will prevail in most districts.
In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, continuous rain and thunderstorms with heavy snowfall on higher elevations are expected in Muzaffarabad, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, and Neelum Valley.
During the past 24 hours, significant rainfall was recorded in Garhidupatta (71mm), Dir Upper (52mm), Balakot (48mm), Kalam (46mm), Skardu (25mm), and Murree (28mm), while snowfall was recorded at Kalam (16 inches), Skardu (11 inches), Malam Jabba and Chitral (8 inches), and Astore (5 inches).
The lowest temperatures recorded were Parachinar (-5C), Leh (-3C), Gupis (-2C), and Skardu and Kalam (-1C).
The authorities have urged citizens, especially travelers and tourists, to stay updated on weather conditions and take precautionary measures to avoid any inconvenience.
