ISLAMABAD, Jun 3 (APP):British Airways Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Brem Monday said the airline resumed its flight operations to Pakistan owing to improved security situation in the country and customers demand.
He made these remarks at a press conference held here in connection with resumption of British Airways flight operations in Pakistan.
Brem said, “The aircraft used by the British Airways is the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner which is 30 per cent fuel efficient than the former aircraft it replaced and has wider windows and best cuisine available for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, which helps ensure smooth and convenient journey. (Year) 2019 is special for us as it marks the 100th anniversary of the airline.”
There were more Pakistanis living in the United Kingdom than the entire Europe he said adding today’s flight was a milestone achieved in the history of British Airways.
British High Commissioner while moderating the press conference said, “British Airways is the first flagship airline of Europe that recommenced its flight operations in Pakistan.” The United Kingdom is the second largest export market of the country, he added.
There were huge commerce, trade, political, cultural and cricket ties between the two nations whereas it was a great day for the United Kingdom in Pakistan and the British Airways revival was excellent news for both the friendly countries, he added.
He said the recommencement of British Airways in Pakistan was only due to better security situation prevailing in the country.
Speaking on the occasion Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile and Industries Abdul Razak Dawood stated that the restoration of British Airways’ flight operations in Pakistan was the endorsement of improved security situation. “The United Kingdom is a very large, rich investor in Pakistan and Britain has been our very large trading partner,” he added.
He mentioned that it was very interesting that earlier a group of British Backpacker Society had visited Pakistan. The resumption of British Airways flight operation would help Pakistani and British tourists to visit Pakistan’s potential tourist destinations.
Federal Minister for Aviation Division Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that the continuation of British Airways flight journey in the country after 10 years spoke volumes about the efforts made by the law enforcement agencies and Airport Security Force (ASF).
“We have the vision to make Islamabad not only the hub of the country rather of the entire region. Islamabad International Airport is a modern and latest airport which could cater 9 million passengers per year,” he added.
The aviation minister said, “I would also like to mention Aviation Policy 2019, developed on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, will help in promoting tourism in the country.”
The incumbent government gave due consideration to the aviation sector due to its key role in economic development whereas the restart of British Airways will help in promoting tourism, cargo business and cultural relationships, he added.
Islamabad-London route would create direct and easy connectivity for the nationals living in the United Kingdom, he mentioned.
He hoped that other international airlines would also take interest in initiating their flight operations from Pakistan.
British Airways flight journey in Pakistan started back in 1976.
