UNITED NATIONS, Apr 09 (APP): Pakistan has called for the lifting of the more than a month-long Israeli blockade of Gaza and an unimpeded humanitarian access throughout the enclave.
Speaking at an OIC ambassadorial meeting, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering” support for the Palestinian cause, including the immediate and full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, an end to forced displacement and colonization, including in the West Bank.
No food, fuel, medicine and commercial items have entered Gaza since 2 March following the Israeli blockade, and supplies are piling up at crossing points.
Meanwhile, the ceasefire announced in January following 15 months of war has collapsed, amid airstrikes, renewed ground operations and rocket launches into Israel by Palestinian groups.
Tuesday’s OIC meeting was held to review the prevailing situation in Palestine and Syria, and received briefings from the Foreign Ministers of Bahrain and Kyrgyzstan regarding their candidatures for the UN Security Council for the terms 2026-27 and 2027-28, respectively.
Pakistan, Ambassador Asim, said remains committed to working closely with OIC member states to advance the common causes and collective interests of the Muslim Ummah.
