MULTAN, Mar 17 (APP):Several hotels, sweet shops, bakeries, and water plants had been inspected in Ramazan, leading to heavy fines for violations of hygiene and food safety standards.
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) teams conducted inspections at food outlets in various areas, including Bairun Haram Gate, Chowk Shah Abbas, Sanaullah Chowk Makhdoom Rasheed, and Jinnah Town Suraj Miani Road. Five BBQ and hotel outlets were fined a total of Rs 120,000 for storing food in contaminated freezers, presence of dead insects, keeping raw materials on dirty floors, and failing to use clean water.
Similarly, inspections on Thatta road Pul 114, Pul Bagar Kabirwala, and Quaid-e-Azam block Khanewal led to fines of Rs. 57,000 on three sweet shops and bakeries for violations such as the presence of flies in food items, storage of stale food, dead insects in oil, and the use of expired ingredients.
In a significant action, a water plant’s production was halted until improvements were made after bacterial contamination was detected in water samples. Additionally, a pizza outlet on Canal Road, Burewala, was fined Rs. 40,000 for using prohibited China salt (monosodium glutamate) in food preparation.
Further inspections in Vehari, including Multan road, Adda Dewan Sahib Burewala, Adda Pakkhi Morh, Chak 247 EB, and Garha Mor Mailsi, led to fines totaling Rs 85,000 on five bakeries for using unauthorized food colors, starch in sweets, expired marmalades, and poor sanitation practices.
