RAWALPINDI, Jul 17 (APP):Traditional sabeels were spread out at almost all main roads and processions’ routes in the city on Ashura to provide drinking water for the processions’ participants.
The activity is a customary ritual connected with the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala, during which water was stopped for them.
The largest sabeels were set up in Raja Bazar area where the city’s central mourning procession was organized. The organizers of the sabeels said serving the people with drinking water remained a kind act religiously. It becomes even a great sympathetic activity during the days of Muharram ul Haram, they said.
The sabeels contained fresh drinking water and other soft drinks which were served to the procession’s participants as well as for the general public. Young boys were assigned to serve the bypassers throughout the day. A similar sabeel was established near Benazir Bhutto Hospital.
A number of smaller sabeels were also set up in other areas including Liaqat Bagh, Committee Chowk, Waris Khan etc.
Many individuals were also seen distributing food items among people. Some distributed fruits and traditional naan-chana as lunch for the people.
The catering services providers informed that they received big orders including rice, haleem and other foods.
