Punjab IG orders enhanced security at churches
LAHORE, Sep 27 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Karim on Sunday directed all Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs) and senior police officers to further strengthen security arrangements at churches across the province.
According to a police spokesperson,security arrangements have been placed on high alert in view of worship and prayer services being held by the Christian community at churches across Punjab.
The IGP directed supervisory officers to personally inspect security arrangements at churches and other important locations and ordered deployment of additional police personnel and snipers at sensitive churches.
He instructed personnel of the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU) and Elite Force to ensure effective patrolling around churches and directed deployed officers to remain highly vigilant and keep a close watch on suspicious activities.
The IGP also ordered continuation of search and sweep operations around churches and Christian localities.
Abdul Karim urged religious scholars,members of the Christian community and peace committees to play their role in promoting interfaith harmony and religious tolerance.
