MIRPUR (AJK), Jul 10 (APP): The phase-wise monsoon tree plantation drive had been kicked off across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) during which over ten million saplings are proposed to be planted throughout the territory under a reported set target, an official source has said.
The source told APP here that the tree-plantation campaign was being launched under phase wise programme in the entire state comprising top mountainous, hilly, semi-hilly and plains terrain, by all the related government functionaries including the AJK Forest Department for which all necessary arrangements for distribution of saplings through the stipulated points across AJK had been made.
He said that the target of planting ten million saplings across AJK during the campaign had been fixed by the departments with the collaboration of the masses including students and volunteers of national and international NGOs.
The source further said that to meet the target and to protect plants in the future, people belonging to all walks of life including employees of public and private sector organizations, NGOs, students and other members of the civil society would be engaged in the campaign.
The saplings would be made available free of cost on all the official nurseries of the AJK Forest Department and the sales points, he added
The State Forest Department and NGOs have reportedly invited the people including the students and the staff of the nation-building institutions to enthusiastically participate in the campaign by planting maximum trees in their respective areas to make the drive a complete success.
