FAISALABAD, Sep 18 (APP):Director General (DG) Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Muhammad Asif Chaudhry said that dengue was a serious issue and it could be tackled only with stern preventive measures. Hence, no negligence and lethargy would be tolerated in anti-dengue arrangements.
Addressing a hurriedly called meeting with the representatives of private housing societies here on Monday, he said that the government had activated its entire machinery to eliminate dengue menace. However, this threat could not be controlled without active cooperation of the masses.
He directed the management of private housing schemes to implement anti-dengue standard operating procedures (SOPs) in toto for complete eradication of dengue; otherwise, strict action would be taken against developers of private housing colonies if dengue larvae was recovered from any site.
He said that the number of dengue patients was increasing day by day. Therefore, every citizen should feel his responsibility and play his active role in elimination of dengue. He said that the FDA had already launched a vigorous campaign against dengue while the Health Department had activated its surveillance teams in the field to detect dengue larvae as it was the most favourable season of dengue for its breeding.
He directed the managers of private housing societies to display banners at conspicuous places in addition to distributing pamphlets and brochures among the general public to sensitise the residents of housing colonies so that they could contribute their role in controlling dengue menace.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Dr Asfandyar said that 938 surveillance teams were active across the district and they detected dengue larvae at more than 31,000 sites during the current season. He said that anti-dengue team also educated people by arranging seminars and distributing informative leaflets. These teams were also guiding the people for draining out stagnant water from parks, green belts, empty plots, water coolers, water tanks, roofs, graveyards, etc. so that dengue could not be breed its larvae.
Deputy District Officer (DDO) Health Dr Azeem Arshad and Entomologist Khurram Kamboh also spoke on the occasion whereas Additional Director General FDA Abid Hussain Bhatti, Director Town Planning Asim Mehmood, Deputy Director Town Planning Ahmad Ibraheem, Assistant Director/Focal Person Muhammad Usman Ramay and others were present in the meeting.
