Home secretary suspends jail superintendent

LAHORE, Apr 24 (APP):Punjab Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal suspended the superintendent of Sialkot District Jail during a surprise visit over mismanagement, negligence and administrative failures.
According to the official notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, Jail Superintendent Babar Ali was removed from his post due to administrative failures.
Kashif Rasool, Additional Superintendent of Central Jail Sahiwal, has been appointed as the new superintendent of Sialkot District Jail.
During his visit, Secretary Mengal inspected several key areas of the prison, including the hospital, kitchen, children and adult barracks, and the tailoring center. He also met with inmates and their visitors to hear their concerns.
The home secretary directed the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons to personally inspect prisons in Punjab to ensure compliance with government directives. He further instructed the IG to submit a comprehensive performance report on industrial units operating within all prisons.
Secretary Mengal highlighted that 20 prison industries had been established across Punjab where inmates are receiving vocational training. He emphasised that all prison superintendents must equip inmates with technical skills to help rehabilitate them into productive members of society.
Additionally, the home secretary has called for a meeting of the Jail Foundation to discuss further reforms and improvements.
