ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP):The district administration of Islamabad has intensified its efforts to curb professional begging, resulting in the arrest of 683 beggars since the start of the year.
The district administration of Islamabad has released data highlighting its ongoing crackdown on professional begging.
From January 1 to date, 239 cases have been registered against individuals involved in begging. During various operations, a total of 683 beggars have been apprehended. Out of these, 629 have been handed over to the judiciary for further legal action.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon emphasized that daily operations are being conducted across the city to ensure the effectiveness of the initiative.
He stressed the importance of maintaining consistent efforts to tackle the issue, which has become a persistent challenge in the capital.
The administration has also called for public cooperation in identifying and reporting instances of professional begging.
According to officials, the involvement of citizens is crucial to the success of the campaign. By working together, authorities and residents can create a more sustainable solution to the problem.
The crackdown is part of a broader strategy to address the root causes of begging, including poverty and lack of employment opportunities. While the immediate focus is on enforcement, long-term measures are being explored to provide alternative livelihoods for those involved in begging.
The district administration has assured that the campaign will continue with the same intensity, aiming to reduce the prevalence of begging in Islamabad. Officials have also highlighted the need for awareness campaigns to educate the public about the negative impact of professional begging on society.
As the operations progress, the administration remains committed to ensuring that the city’s public spaces are free from organized begging activities. The collaboration between law enforcement and the community is seen as a vital step toward achieving this goal.
