City receives scattered rain

LAHORE, Jul 10 (APP):Moderate but scattered rain was recorded in the city on Wednesday while the MET office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.
The rain started at noon and continued till evening in various city localities including Tajpura, Lakshmi Chowk, Qurtaba Chowk, Farrukhabad, Upper Mall, Mughalpura, Chowk Nakhuda, Shahi Qila, Airport, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Nishter Town, Walled City, Gulberg, Samanabad, Johar Town and adjoining localities.
The rain slowed down the traffic on city roads while a large number of motorcyclists took refuge under the trees, shades and underpasses.
Following the rain, MD WASA Ghafran Ahmed came out on the roads and started surprise visits to various points, low lying areas and disposal stations of the agency. He also directed all the field staff to be very vigilant and drain stagnant rainwater as soon as possible.
The MET officials said that monsoon currents from Arabian Sea were penetrating upper/central parts of the country while a shallow trough of westerly wave was also present over upper parts of the country.
They predicted that rain-wind/thundershowers (with isolated heavy falls) was expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Pothohar region, upper Punjab, northeast Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan while hot and humid weather was expected elsewhere in the country.
Rainfall was recorded at several cities across the country.
Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Jacobabad where mercury reached 47°C while in Lahore it was 38.0°C and minimum was 27.4°C.
