SPI-based inflation rises 0.23pc

ISLAMABAD, Sep 11 (APP):The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.23 percent during the week ended on September 10, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here Friday.
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review rose to 364.26 points from 363.42 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 8.62 percent.
The weekly SPI, with base year 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) decreased by 0.30 percent, while the SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733–22,888 and Rs 22,889–29,517 declined by 0.18 percent and 0.06 percent respectively.
On the other hand, the SPI for groups of Rs 29,518–44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 0.07 percent and 0.47 percent respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 14 items (27.45 percent) increased, 10 items (19.61 percent) decreased, while 27 items (52.94 percent) remained unchanged.
On a week-on-week basis, the items that witnessed an increase in prices included petrol, which rose by 6.18 percent, followed by diesel 5.49 percent, LPG 4.32 percent, pulse mash 0.79 percent, washing soap 0.49 percent, wheat flour 0.47 percent, pulse masoor 0.46 percent, mustard oil 0.36 percent, cooking oil 5 litre 0.23 percent, rice IRRI-6/9 0.18 percent, vegetable ghee 2.5 kg 0.11 percent and curd 0.03 percent.
On the other hand, the prices of bananas decreased by 7.73 percent, followed by tomatoes 5.24 percent, chicken 4.22 percent, onions 3.72 percent, potatoes 1.88 percent, eggs 0.68 percent, garlic 0.44 percent and sugar 0.42 percent.
On a year-on-year basis, major increases were observed in the prices of onions (125.52 percent), LPG (55.42 percent), diesel (45.26 percent), petrol (39.10 percent), wheat flour (30.18 percent), electricity charges for Q1 (25.24 percent), chilies powder (16.37 percent), mutton (15.92 percent), beef (13.28 percent), bananas (10.51 percent), milk fresh (8.12 percent) and bread plain (8.09 percent).
On the other hand, a decrease was observed in the prices of potatoes (35.21 percent), chicken (24.30 percent), sugar (20.88 percent), eggs (19.95 percent), tomatoes (17.65 percent), salt powder (13.96 percent), pulse gram (13.52 percent) and pulse masoor (12.26 percent).
