KU Pharmacy Science Club organizes first science fair

KARACHI, Sep 16 (APP):The Karachi University Pharmacy Science Club on Monday arranged its first science fair at the new building of the faculty of pharmacy.
The event attracted students from various universities across Karachi who participated and showcased their innovative products and scientific projects, all aimed at solving real-world problems and contributing to societal well-being.
Speakers mentioned that it was significant in nurturing the next generation of innovators and researchers. With a focus on healthcare, environmental sustainability, and technological advancements, the students’ innovations contribute directly to improving society, the event provides a window into the future of science and technology, inspiring new ideas and fostering collaboration across institutions.
KU Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Harris Shoaib inaugurated the daylong event, and along with the faculty, engaged with the students explored their groundbreaking projects, and underscored the importance of research in the field of health sciences.
In addition, guest speakers and a panel of esteemed judges were present, offering valuable insights and feedback to the participants.
The fair featured a variety of categories, showcasing the diverse talent of students.
Among these, the “Pharmaceutical Sciences Category” stood out, comprising three specialized sub-categories.
The technology sub-category was meticulously evaluated by Dr Zaad Hashmi and Yamna Majid, whose keen insights into technological advancements helped spotlight projects with the potential to revolutionize the field.
Management Science projects were evaluated by Dr Zaad Hashmi. Also, the category of Computer Sciences was swiftly judged by Usman Amjad who witnessed ideas of some innovative models.
The Formulation sub-category was judged by Dr Talha Usmani, Dr Jibran Khan, and Dr Mahwish Fatima, who assessed each project based on its innovation, and practicality.
Lastly, the Cosmeceuticals sub-category was evaluated by Kamran Alam and Shakeel Ahmed, who provided expert analysis on the efficacy and market potential of the showcased products.
In addition to the pharmaceutical projects, the fair also featured the Biotechnological Sciences Category, which was assessed by Dr Ghias Ahmed and Dr Omair Anwar Mohiuddin, both esteemed scholars in biotechnology.
The Microbiological Sciences Category was judged by Rehana Saeed, Tazeen Hussain, and Sadaf Farooqui, who thoroughly evaluated the microbial innovations presented by students, particularly in areas like environmental microbiology and clinical applications.
The healthcare partners – Sehat Kahani, Dawn Healthcare, and Nadeem Medicos – played a vital role by hosting the Healthcare Bootcamp, where students’ vitals such as blood pressure and calcium levels were checked, promoting the importance of health awareness.
The beverage partner, Quice, ensured that participants and attendees stayed hydrated and refreshed throughout the day.
During the closing ceremony, a prize distribution was held where winners from each category received awards, and all participants were presented with certificates for their contributions.
The KU Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Dr Harris Shoaib praised the students from various universities for their active participation and commended both the organizing team and participants for their hard work.
Professor Dr Iqbal Azhar also addressed the audience, encouraging students to continue innovating, emphasizing the importance of technology advancements, and highlighting the role students play in shaping the future.
According to them, the first science fair serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the power of youth-driven innovation and its potential to address society’s pressing challenges.
They mentioned that the faculty members Dr Iyad Naeem, Dr Asia, and Dr Sana Sarfaraz, who, as patrons of the event, played a pivotal role in organizing the science fair.
