GIlGIT, Jul 10 (APP):A progress review meeting of the GLOF-II project was held on Wednesday at the Planning and Development (P&D) Department in Gilgit chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Gilgit-Baltistan, Captain (Retd) Mushtaq Ahmed.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Deputy Country Representative of UNDP Pakistan, Ms. Van Nguyen, Assistant Resident Representative Mustafa Mehmood, and National Project Manager GLOF-II, Kamal ud Din Qamar from UNDP. Respective provincial secretaries from the Water Management and Forest Departments, the Director General Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA), and representatives from all implementing partners were also in attendance.
Muteeb Ali, Program Analyst at UNDP and Abdul Basit, Provincial Project Coordinator GLOF-II, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the progress of project activities, emphasizing the utilization of funds allocated for the current fiscal year.
The UNDP mission raised concerns over the slow pace of project implementation and the low utilization of funds, highlighting several administrative issues. They urged the implementing partners to expedite the implementation rate to achieve an 80% utilization of funds by the end of July or August.
In response, the Additional Chief Secretary assured the UNDP mission of taking necessary steps to meet the financial utilization target within the given timeline.
He called upon all implementing partner departments to intensify their efforts and accelerate work on field interventions to meet the required targets set by the donor agency.
Captain (R) Mushtaq Ahmed expressed gratitude to the UNDP mission for their invaluable support throughout the implementation of the GLOF-II project.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to enhance project implementation and ensure the successful achievement of project goals.
