Indian media’s fake “civil war” in Pakistan, falls flat on face

In an abortive attempt to create diversion from Narendra Modi’s human rights abuses in Kashmir, the Indian media went berserk by propagating fake news about a “civil war” like situation in Karachi, triggering a hilarious response from the twitterati in Pakistan, who enjoyed every bit of the ridiculous reports.

#CivilWarInPakistan and #KarachiCivilWar were in no time the top trends, with the young twitter users going crazy by posting video clips from action movies, comics, images of the Indian MiG pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, shot down by Pakistan Air Force inside Pakistan’s territory, as scenes from the Civil War, getting an equally enthusiastic response with numerous retweets and likes.

The arrest of PML-N leader Captain (Retd) Safdar on charges of political sloganeering at Quaid’s Mausoleum and leave applications by senior police officers was exploited by the top Indian news channels, who portrayed an administrative issue as a “civil war” and went to the extent of even reporting casualties, and armed clashes.

The news reports were part of a persistent barrage of fake news from Indian mainstream media and its RAW controlled assets on social media over the past few months. The trend has witnessed a sharp spike as part of India’s fifth generation war (5GW) against Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office on the “malicious and fabricated propaganda” by Indian mainstream and social media claiming civil unrest in Pakistan, said planting such baseless stories were reflective of the “Pakistan-obsessed BJP-RSS” mindset.

“Needless to say that Indian media continues to hit new lows,” he said, when asked to respond over the series of fake news flashed as breaking news across the Indian media about a “civil war in Pakistan”.

The Spokesperson said through “peddling fake news and running propaganda machinery”, India could not wash away the truth about its own gross and systematic human rights violations in Indian Ilelgally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

“Rather than reporting on humanitarian crisis in IIOJK, the Indian media chooses to spread fake and sensational news about Pakistan to detract from core issues,” he said.

The Indian media tried hard to appease its own consumers and to create a diversion from its human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir. However in its abortive attempt it created history by churning out fake news overpowered by the anti-Pakistan hysteria, undermining its professional ethics and credibility.

The unleashing of the Indian media did not go unnoticed, as Michael Kugelman, deputy director at the @AsiaProgram and South Asia senior associate @TheWilsonCenter in a tweet pointed that the Indian disinformation accounts were exploiting Pakistan’s current political crisis, and “falsely claiming that the country is no experiencing urban warfare.”

He described the trend as “dangerous and disturbing”, as several of these accounts were verified and had huge followings.

Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari said the Indian media was in “hyper drive with fake news on Pakistan” and regretted that it was “unfortunate that Twitter is [deliberately ignoring it].”

All major media outlets in so-called world’s biggest democracy decimated all journalistic norms as none bothered to fact-check such a huge gaffe. India’s News18, India Today, Zee News, India.com and several others quoted the International Herald which showed old videos of bomb explosions in Pakistan and portrayed it as the ongoing civil war.

The Institute of Policy Research in a report said their data indicates a pattern of Indian propaganda against Pakistan on digital media that grew exponentially after 2018 General Elections in #Pakistan. The propaganda hovers around largely 4 key themes.

Minister for Ports and Shipping pointed that the Indian propaganda was at its peak and “sadly fueled by the PDM Circus.” He said the food inflation was artificially manufactured, but was being brought under control.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs also lambasted the “fake, fabricated and malicious propaganda campaign to malign State institutions of Pakistan. He urged @Twitter to take action against Indian accounts for #FakeNews against Paksitan.

However, this idiocy of Indian media gave the Twitterati a perfect chance to enjoy as the microblogging site was flooded with messages to ridicule the Indian media’s insanity.

“Karachi civil war has gotten so bad that my food panda delivery boy had to crawl through mine fields carrying his AK47, RPG & 9mm along with my nihari and Biryani. This thing is getting so serious. Multiple cows have been killed & people are dying of over eating. #IndianMedia,” commented renowned singer Fakhr-e-Alam.

Besides numerous other fake photos, the Indian media also used an image of a building collapsed following a gas leakage blast in Karachi earlier in the day to substantiate its fake news of civil war.

“A little investigation would have informed Zee News that it wasn’t a bomb blast in ‘civil war’ in Pakistan but the result of a  gas leak in Karachi. Whither truth, objectivity, balance and fairness in reporting?,” said Farhatullah Babr, former senator of Pakistan Peoples Party which rules Sindh province.

“An Aircraft shot during civil war in Karachi… and the pilot captured…,” commented another Twitter user Fasihuddin while sharing the images of Indian aircraft MiG-21 and captured injured pilot Abhinandan following an aerial dogfight during India-Pakistan standoff in 2019.

Israel blocking international media in Gaza since launching of it’s military campaign: UN

0

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 18 (APP): Amid Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip that killed at least 23 people, the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, issued an urgent call to “get international media into Gaza” to cover the conflict, in addition to those reporters trapped in the enclave.

“Palestinian journalists continue to do heroic work, paying a heavy price; 170 have been killed to date,” said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini. “The free flow of information and independent reporting are key to facts and accountability during conflicts.”

In his appeal, Lazzarini noted that in the more than 18 months since war in Gaza began, reliable reporting has been overtaken by propaganda and “dehumanizing” messages about the war.

Ajith Sunghay, head of the UN human rights office, OHCHR, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, also expressed deep concerns about the dangers facing journalists there – although the situation “has always been very difficult”, he maintained.

“They have been subject to oppression in many instances we’ve recorded – killings and censorship and detention,” he told UN News, an international media web site. “But we have also recorded a massive spike in such operations – attacks, killings, detention and censorship – since 7 October 2023.”

Sunghay noted that OHCHR data indicates that 209 journalists have been killed in Gaza since 7 October 2023, the higher number reflecting all journalists killed on duty or at home.

The situation for journalists in the West Bank is also critical, with reports of arrested reporters receiving simulated beatings and threats of sexual violence against women journalists by Israeli authorities, the OHCHR office noted.

“Journalists are civilians and are protected from attacks under international humanitarian law unless they’re directly participating in hostilities,” Mr. Sunghay said, adding that Palestinian authorities were also reportedly responsible for “oppression” of media professionals. “The intentional killings of journalists is a war crime, and this is something that we have highlighted on several occasions.”

In a related development, other UN agencies issued fresh alerts about the mounting impact of Israel’s six-week-old decision to cut off all food and other supplies from entering the shattered territory. Fuel is also included in the embargo and supplies are dwindling, with “bakeries shutting, hospitals running out of medicine” and gasoline for generators to keep their machinery working, said UNRWA.

Since Israeli bombing of Gaza resumed on 18 March, about 500,000 people have been newly displaced “or uprooted once more”, said spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephanie Tremblay. Her comments came as Israel’s defence minister reportedly said that troops will remain in Gaza’s so-called security zones indefinitely, along with Lebanon and Syria.

Aid deliveries also continue to be impacted by Israeli refusals, with only two out of six missions that had been coordinated with the Israeli authorities allowed to go ahead on Wednesday. “The remaining four were denied” including one mission to retrieve urgently needed fuel from Rafah, noted Ms. Tremblay, citing the UN aid coordination office, OCHA.

Some 30 per cent of the Gaza Strip is now a security buffer where Palestinian civilians cannot live, the Israeli military reportedly announced.

Amid ongoing Israeli bombardment, military manoeuvres and evacuation orders, UN aid teams highlighted their continuing efforts to help the people of war-torn Gaza, despite encountering immense difficulties.

Approximately 1,300 patients attended a newly reopened UNRWA health centre in Maan, southern Gaza, after it was severely damaged in December 2023 during an Israeli military incursion into east Khan Younis, the agency aid. The facility provides outpatient services, non-communicable disease care, medications, vaccinations, antenatal and postnatal health care. It also offers physiotherapy and psychosocial support.

A blood donation drive for local hospitals is also underway in southern Gaza at UNRWA medical points amid an urgent need for thousands of blood units for life-saving operations.

“Medicines and medical consumables are rapidly running out in Gaza, including critically low levels of supplies and blood units for maternal and child health,” the UN agency said.

Repairs have been successful to a water well that serves around 20,000 displaced people in Jabalia camp and others sheltering in seven UNRWA shelters in the surrounding area, the UN agency said on Thursday. UNRWA now operates five water wells: three in Jabalia, one in Gaza City and one in Khan Younis. Recycled and reused parts made the project possible.

According to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), around one million people, including 400,000 children, have gone from having access to 16 litres of drinking water per person per day, to just six.

Daily waste removal continues in Gaza with around 2,500 cubic metres of water and 230 tonnes of solid waste collected every day. This represents about 40 per cent of overall needs.

In its latest update, OCHA said that at least 51,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war on 7 October 2023 and 116,343 Palestinians injured. This includes 1,630 people killed and 4,302 injured since the escalation of hostilities on 18 March, it said, citing Gaza health authorities

“The lack of heavy machinery and equipment hinder rescue efforts of the wounded and missing while casualties continue to fall due to continued bombardment by Israeli forces, including on tents for displaced people,” OCHA said.

Meanwhile, the aid community’s Nutrition Cluster has warned that the rapid deterioration of children’s nutrition status in Gaza “is already visible”.

In March alone, 3,696 children were newly admitted for acute malnutrition out of 91,769 children screened, it was pointed out. This marks a sharp increase compared with February, when 2,027 children were admitted out of a total of 83,823 screened.

KARACHI, Apr 17 (APP): Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf on Thursday said that the National Minorities Commission is being formed, which is currently in the final stages and will be formed soon.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the Interfaith Harmony Conference, on “Interfaith Harmony : Need of the modern era”, at a hotel here.
He said that the National Interfaith Harmony Policy, aims to promote inter-faith harmony, has also been approved while instructions have been issued to all provinces for its implementation.
The minister said that the government has taken some steps, such as approval of the Strategy for Religious Tolerance so that culture of tolerance can be promoted in the country.
He said that the objective of today’s conference is to promote interfaith harmony in the country. Every year, the ministry organizes such conferences in different provinces, as was held in Lahore on the 13th and today in Karachi, he added.
He said that financial assistance is also provided to deserving non-Muslims and their families by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Scholarships are also issued for non-Muslim students every year, so that non-Muslim students can continue their educational journey, he said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs provides financial assistance to non-Muslims for the repair, renovation and beautification of their places of worship and for the purchase of health and education-related items.
The Federal Minister for Religious Affairs said that non-Muslim festivals are also celebrated at the official level. Interfaith Harmony Conferences are being organized in all four provinces of Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which is now happening here in Karachi.
He said that the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony provide opportunities to followers of all religions to meet so that everyone can listen to each other, express their position and establish an atmosphere of harmony.
Earlier, between 2013 and 2018, when he was given this ministry, he tried to work on interfaith harmony, he recalled.
He expressed pleasure on the way the conference is being held today, and said he is happy that all the speakers expressed their views as a Pakistani and everything that has been discussed here has been positive.
The minister said that everyone gave their suggestions so that an atmosphere of consensus and unity can be established in the country.
The suggestions that have been presented here today are now the responsibility of our ministry to consider their implementation. The speakers are representing their respective religions and everyone expressed their own views, he said.
He said that recently, there was a Baisakhi festival in Pakistan in which Sikh pilgrims from all over the world came to Pakistan. They were welcomed and arrangements were made for them. Our agreement was that only three thousand Sikh pilgrims can come, but this time when they requested that we be given more visas, the government showed generosity and, respecting religious sentiments, more than seven thousand visas were issued, he said.
He said that ample arrangements were made for Sikh pilgrims in Nankana Sahib, in Kartarpur, in Panja Sahib, excellent arrangements were also made and their facilities were taken care of and it is a matter of happiness for us that Sikh pilgrims come to Pakistan to their holy places and they feel happy coming here. We took care of all their facilities, which made us and our government very happy, he said.
Sardar Yousuf said that in today’s event, a total of 11 speakers belonging to different religions expressed their views as Pakistanis and the main purpose of this conference is that all the people belonging to different religions living here, regardless of their religion, are first human beings and then Pakistanis and the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees the protection of their rights.
In the same way, our scholars have stated that the rights of all minorities have been guaranteed in the teachings of our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). The meaning of the Hadith is that the killing of one person is the killing of the entire humanity. Today, we certainly regret that the injustice and atrocities that occur anywhere in the world are a great injustice to humanity, he said.
He said that with the efforts of the ministry, not only a five percent quota for minorities in jobs at the federal, but also the provincial governments have allocated five percent quotas for minority communities in provincial jobs in proportion to population and this is also being implemented.
Earlier, Patron-in-chief of Pakistan Sikh Council Sardar Ramesh Singh, ex-chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb -ur-Rehman, Famous scholar, Mufti Muhammad Yousuf Qasoori, representative of Christian community Bishop Fredric John, scholar Mufti Abu Bakar Mohiuddin, Mufti Muhammad Rafiq and other notables also spoke.
