ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Eminent personalities, national leaders, former members of national and provincial assemblies as well as other prominent figures of the country turned to polling stations on Saturday to cast their votes and play due role in the formation of upcoming government. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Qazi Faiz Esa cast their votes in Quetta NA-259.

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Reports emanating from across the country speak of high turnout at the polling stations as people were queuing up untiringly to cast their votes since morning. These reports aired by various news channels said that the polling which started at 8 am would continue uninterrupted till 5 pm and in some areas the timings for casting the votes would be extended.

LAHORE,May 11 (APP)-Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arif Nizami casted his vote here on Saturday in Defence housing authority (DHA) which has constituencies NA- 125 and PP- 155. Talking to media at the polling station at American Lycetuff School,the minister appreciated it as a healthy sign that people in good numbers were turning up to exercise their right of vote. Arif Nizami hoped that this time the turn out would exceed that of 2008 elections which had 43 percent voters turn out.

KARACHI, May 11 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday strongly condemned the blasts and incidence of violence in various parts of Karachi on the Election Day which resulted into loss of lives. In a message, the President said such cowardly acts of the militants on the election day cannot stop the democracy-loving people from going to the polling stations and exercising their right to vote. Expressing heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families, the President prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and for the courage of bereaved families. He also directed the concerned to provide best possible assistance to the injured.

May 11 (APP): Millions of Pakistanis went to vote on Saturday in a
historic moment when an elected government would handover the rule to
another elected government as the country went through elections for
14th National Assembly and four provincial assemblies. The country
witnessed an unprecedented voters’ turnout what the Secretary Election
Ishtiak Ahmed Khan said was huge and is expected to be between 60 to 80
percent. With an hour added by the Election Commission on political
parties’s demand, the polling culminated at 1800 hours across the
country; however the Commission extended the polling time by three hours
in seven constituencies in Karachi where the polling could not start at
the scheduled time.

KARACHI, May 11 (APP): Three people were reported killed while nine others sustained injuries in a blast in Dawood Chali in Landhi area here on Saturday. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner of Malir (Karachi), Qazi Jan Muhammad. He said those injured in the blast were rushed to the hospital. However, the voting process in the area continued unhampered, it was further stated.
