Death toll in Syria civil war over 191,000: UN -
UNITED NATIONS, Aug 22 (APP): The number of people killed in Syria is double the number documented a year ago, the U.N. human rights chief Friday announced, criticizing the international community for failing to stop the “killers, destroyers and torturers” that have torn the country apart.


Pakistan urges UNSC to make full use of diplomacy for resolution of conflicts -
UNITED NATIONS, Aug 22 (APP): At the United Nations Security Council today Pakistan urged the Council to make full use of the preventive diplomacy tools at its disposal under Chapter VI "especially mediation, arbitration, inquiry, judicial settlement, involvement of regional organizations,the Secretary General's good offices" to defuse tensions and  to resolve conflicts that were simmering just below the surface but threaten to explode.


US favors dialogue, peaceful expression of view -
WASHINGTON, Aug 21 (APP): The United States thinks there needs to be a political dialogue, in the face of marches by Opposition parties in Islamabad, and it also favors peaceful expression of view, the State Department said Thursday.

While commenting on decades’ old Sino-Pak diplomatic ties, diplomatic sources said here Tuesday, it was because of this close fraternal understanding that bilateral relations were promoted between the two countries irrespective of domestic political regime changes and issues even since Pakistan recognised the Peoples Republic of China on January 4, 1950.

BEIJING, Dec 14 (APP): China and Pakistan could exceed their 2015 bilateral trade volume target of 15 billion US dollars with the soaring growth in bilateral trade, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Masood Khan, has said in an interivew.Total trade in the first nine months this year reached 6.2 billion US dollars, which was a 29-percent rise from the same period last year, Khan said. If such growth continued, then over the next five years, trade could be as high as 18 billion US dollars a year, Khan said in an interview with Xinhua news agency ahead of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s 3-day official visit to Pakistan starting from December 17.

GILGIT, June 23 (APP): The Rs.12,984.001 million Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) budget for the fiscal year 2010-11 was presented on Wednesday. GB Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar presented the budget in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly session, which was chaired by Speaker Wazir Baig. The new budget provides allocation of Rs. 6,404.889 million for non-development expenditures, while the remaining amount has been earmarked for the development projects. Delivering the budget speech in the GBLA, Muhammad Ali Akhtar announced 50 per cent raise in the salaries of government employees with 100 per cent increase in medical allowance of employees from BPS 1 to 15, and 15 percent rise for employees from BPS 16 and above.

QUETTA, June 21 (APP): The Rs 152 billion annual Balochistan Budget for fiscal year 2010-11 was presented by Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd Gailo in a session of the Balochistan Assembly on Monday. Delivering the budget speech, he said the largest budget on account of it size in history of Balochistan for financial year 2010-11 with total estimates of more than Rs. 150 billion. The details are as under: The size of proposed financial budget for year 2010-11 is 152.100 billion. The current expenditure estimates are 83.440 billion while capital expenditure estimates are 41.810 billion.  The development budget estimates are about 26.000 billion which includes 4.000 billion of foreign project assistance.

ISLAMABAD, June 19 (APP): Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) General ® Nadeem has said that efforts would be made to remove three big stones, present in the middle of the Attabad lake spillway.Talking to a private news channel he said the inflow and outflow of Hunza Lake is almost equal and a team of experts will reach Gilgit today tol review spillway’s widening work.He said that there are three big stones in the middle of the spillway. If they are removed, water discharge could reach 15,000 to 20,000 cusecs, which will gradually reduce lake level.
