Ambassador Jilani highlights Islamabadís policies, Pak-US ties -
WASHINGTON, April 18 (APP): Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani addressed the faculty and participants of 2014 National War College, encompassing a wide range of subjects including positive trajectory in Islamabad-Washington relations, ongoing transformations in Pakistan and developments in the region.


Youths are torch bearers of Pak-China friendship: Masood Khalid -
BEIJING, Apr 18 (APP): Ambassador Masood Khalid has said that youths from both the countries are the torch bearers and have the responsibility to take forward the legacy of Pak-China friendship that built up over past 60-years.


Pak-China universities ink students exchange agreement -
GUANGZHOU, Apr 18 (APP): National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad and China’s Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), Guangzhou, Friday concluded a Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation and a Student Exchange Agreement. The documents were signed by Maj Gen (Retd) Masood Hasan, Rector NUML and Prof. Zhong Weihe, President GDUFS. The initiative of the MoU and the agreement between the two Universities was launched and facilitated by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou. Under the MoU on Academic Cooperation, the NUML would set up a NUML International Center of Education (NICE) on the premises of GDUFS. NUML will initially assign academicians/ instructors at the NICE for English and Urdu languages and subsequently extend it for other languages.


UN Envoy urges fresh talks with besieged Syrians, authorities -
UNITED NATIONS, April 17 (APP): Regretting the abrupt halt in talks between the Syrian authorities and the negotiating committee representing civilians and fighters trapped in the Old City of Homs, U.N.-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi Thursday urged all the parties to return to the negotiating table and complete the deal that had been on the verge of being signed.



On first visit to Gaza, UN official calls for end to Israeli blockade -
UNITED NATIONS, April 17 (APP):  On his first official visit to the Gaza Strip, the new head of the United Nations agency assisting Palestinian refugees across the Middle East underscored the need to lift the seven-year Israeli blockade and end the ‘illegal collective punishment’ unleashed on the population there.

ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): The outflow of water from Attabad Lake is increasing steadily, making the next 24 to 48 hours extremely critical. Hunza-Gilgit section of Karakoram Highway would remain open from 07:00am to 04:00pm on Monday until authorities issue any warning, Assistant Commissioner Hunza Zamir Abbas told a Private News Channel. Vice Chancellor Karakoram University Dr Najma Najam said the university would also start regular classes from Monday.

HUNZA, May 30 (APP): Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Syed Mehdi Shah here on Sunday announced free education for children of affected people of land sliding area on the directive of Prime Minister’s additional relief package them. He announced the decision in a press conference, primarily conducted to brief media about comprehensive efforts and strategy made by the GB government, soon after situation turned bitter after forming the natural lake by avalanching and consequently causing land slide in Attabad.

GILGIT, May 29 (APP): The smooth overflow of water from the natural lake continued unabatedly and there was only 15 cusec flow per second recorded from the lake, an official  said. The spilling of water so far is very slow but it would certainly increase with the passage of time as indicated by the NESPAK consultants, said Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department Ghulam Rasool while talking to APP.He said that erosion also started which was expected by the experts and it will increase with every passing moment.The Executive Engineer said that there was 15 cusec flow from the lake while inflow ratio of water level was recorded at 3400 and surely, it will put pressure on the spillway.

ISLAMABAD, May 28 (APP): National Disaster Management Authority spokesman and Director General Operations Brig. Sajid Naeem has said the night between 28th and 29th May is very important for the exit of water from the Hunza lake.He said all arrangements are complete to cope with any emergency. Experts of WAPDA, Metrological Department, NESPAK, Geological Survey of Pakistan and NGOs are thoroughly monitoring the situation. Talking exclusively with Radio Pakistan Naeem said the gap between water level in the Attaabad Lake and the spillway remains only four feet.

GILGIT, May 26 (APP): Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani is personally monitoring the rise of water level in Atta Abad Hunza lake. This was stated by Commander of the Armed forces in Gilgit-Baltistan, Major General Qamar Javed Bajwa in a news briefing here Wednesday. He said the land sliding was not a new phenomena in the area rather it had occurred in the past as well. He disclosed that through optic fiber the army chief and he himself were monitoring the situation.

Gilani dismissed criticism following his visit to Gilgit and Hunza said it would have been unfair if compensation was announced without conducting proper damage assessment.

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): Troops of Pakistan Army are continuing relief efforts in affected areas of Hunza Valley and Army Aviation Helicopters have continuously been transporting stranded people to safer places. Till date 161 sorties of Army Helicopters have been carried out in the area through which around 2000 marooned people have been evacuated to the safer places.  Relief goods weighing 61,000 Kgs have also been distributed in the relief camps. Army troops have been deployed for relief activities at Gulmit, Nagar, Aliabad, Nasirabad Pisan, Sikandarabad, Nomal, Deor, Jaglot and Gilgit.

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): Ataabad lake water likely to enter spillway in two days as water level has reached above 350 feet. According to a private news channel Wednesday, water seeping from the lake into valley has submerged many other areas, water from the Attabad Lake has drowned Lower Shishkat, and now the Gilmat population is also under danger.

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP):The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has expected that the overflow of water from the Ataabad Lake, Hunza is likely between May 25-27. Giving details of the Attaabad Hunza lake situation, an NDMA statement said due to safety considerations measurement of free board has been stopped from Sunday onwards. The NDMA giving further details of the last measurement of the lake said that seepage of water was recorded at 197 Cusecs Free Board was 2.01 M while the expected time of over flow is likely  between May 25 to 27.
