Right to online privacy at risk as governments engage in mass surveillance: UN expert -
UNITED NATIONS, Oct 24 (APP): States must be transparent about the nature of their electronic mass surveillance programmes, a United Nations counter-terrorism expert said Thursday as he warned about the impact such measures might have on individuals' right to privacy.

ISLAMABAD, Sept 30 (APP): Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said that the government would utilize all possible resources for the provision of relief and rehabilitation to the people affected by the devastating earthquake in Balochistan. The minister said this while chairing a high level meeting here Monday which reviewed the Balochistan earthquake relief and rehabilitation work on the directives of the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Interior Minister reviewed the earthquake relief work and directed the Chairman NDMA, Chairman NADRA and DG ERRA to proceed to Balochistan and prepare a consolidated assessment and rehabilitation plan. Chairman NDMA, DG ERRA, Chairman NADRA and senior officials of the PM Office attended the meeting.

QUETTA, Sept 30 (APP): Federal government is committed to extend all-out support to the provincial government of Balochistan in its rescue and relief operation underway in the quake-battered areas of Awaran and Kech. The assurance was made in a high-level meeting held in Quetta during which Engineer-in-Chief Pakistan Lieutenant General, Najeebullah Khan called on Chief Secretary Balochistan, Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad at Civil Secretariat here. Issues relating to the rehabilitation of the calamity-hit areas of the province and pending federal government projects were discussed during the course of meeting. Federal government would provide full assistance to the Balochistan in its measures for the the rehabilitation of the catastrophe-stricken people of the remote parts of the province.

RAWALPINDI, Sept 30 (APP): Director General ISPR Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Monday that over 2000 army personnel were busy in rescue and relief operation in the earthquake hit Awaran district of Balochistan province. Over 100,000 people have been displaced while 20,000 houses have been destroyed as a result of the earthquake which mainly hit the Awaran district, he told newsmen here. The DG ISPR said so far 470 casualties have been confirmed while another 425 people were injured. So far 5310 tents, 207 tons of food items have been distributed among quake affected people, he added.

Inter Service Public Rations spokesman has said that on the directives of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Commander 10 Corps, Lietenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Pakistan Army has set up two camps aimed at collect the donations for the catastrophe-hit ---people of Balochistan. For the generous response to their fellow country men, people have been appealed to come forward and donate at camps established at Polo ground Mal Road, Rawalpindi Cant and F9 Park, Gate 1 Margala Road Islamabad. Lt Col Khalid Chohan (03364494844) and Lt Col Amjad (03219633339) could be contacted for the donations.

The two sides agreed to work on it according to the guiding principles of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good-Neighbourly Relations between the two countries and on the existing close cooperation. The two sides reviewed with satisfaction the development of China- Pakistan relations, and are of the view that the China-Pakistan relationship  has acquired growing strategic significance under the current complex and volatile regional and international situation. This partnership positively contributes to peace and stability in the region. To cement this strategic partnership is the shared objective of both countries, said a Joint Statement on deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The escort formation of JF-17 Thunders was led by Wing Commander Ronald Afzal.

Both the prime ministers planted a chir pine tree named as ‘China-Pakistan Friendship Tree’ at the garden in a ceremony also attended by federal cabinet members and CDA officers including Member Environment, Ahsan Ali Mangi, Member Planning and Design Mustafain Kazmi. Premier Li Keqiang is the 118th foreign dignitary planting a tree at Shakarparian. Acting CDA Chairman Azhar Ali Chaudhry briefed the guest about the making of Capital Islamabad in this region and tradition of planting trees at this Memorial Garden of Shakarparian where the Federal Cabinet met to approve the plan of the Federal Capital Islamabad.
