May 8 (APP): Diplomatic community has expressed its full support and
cooperation to the democratic process in Pakistan and extended
unequivocal support for free, credible and transparent elections on May
11. In a statement
jointly issued here on Wednesday, the embassies and high commissions of
Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, the United States of
America, as well as the European Union Delegation, recognized the
commitment to democracy of the over 4,600 candidates standing for office
federally, 11,000 contesting at provincial levels and 86 million
Pakistani citizens registered to vote expressed their unequivocal
support for free, credible and transparent elections in Pakistan.

BANNU, May 8 (APP): At least three persons including two women were killed and 27 others injured when a suicide car bomber blew up his explosive packed vehicle near an urban police station here in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to police, the bomber drove a car, packed with explosives into the buildings behind Domail police station, which detonated with a bang that was heard miles around.

UNITED NATIONS, April 8, APP: With U.S.-led coalition forces set to leave Afghanistan next year, Pakistan has underscored the role of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the world’s largest regional security grouping, in the transition process, and said that peace would help strengthen the war-ravaged country. “As the international security forces prepare to withdraw by 2014, OSCE’s continued engagement with Afghanistan will have a positive impact on four transitions underway: security, reconciliation, electoral, and economic,” Ambassador Masood Khan, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the U.N,, told the Security Council on Tuesday.

KARACHI, May 7 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday strongly condemned the bomb blast that targeted a public meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party in the Babbagam area of Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The President while expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families directed the authorities to provide best possible medical assistance to the injured. The President also directed the law enforcement authorities to further enhance the security of the candidates, public meetings and the people in general to ensure a peaceful conduct of the general elections on May 11.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Prime Minister Justice retired Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Tuesday approved a proposal for completing 795km Gwadar-Hoshab road in two years time. The Prime Minister said that completion of this strategic road would herald a change in the socio-economic condition of Balochistan and Sindh provinces. He was chairing a high level meeting to review the progress on Gwadar-Ratodero Road project here at Prime Minister’s House. Prime Minister Khoso said that completion of this road would connect Gwadar port with rest of the country and the connectivity would result in the beneficial utilization of Gwadar port for the entire nation.

PESHAWAR, May 7 (APP): At least 13 have been killed and 40 others injured in two deadly attacks on election meetings in Hangu and Dir Lower on Tuesday. Police said the first incident occurred at Doaba main bazaar where former MPA and candidate of JUI-F, Syed Hassan Janaan was attacked by outlaws by detonating a powerful bomb, which was planted on motorcycle with remote control device. As a result, ten persons were killed and 33 others injured who were shifted to hospitals. However, Mufti Janaan narrowly escaped.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Tuesday said that there had been some terrorist incidents, which would by and large not affect voters turnout. The turnout is expected to be reasonably good, said the Prime Minister while talking to German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Cyrill Nunn, who called on him here. He said that all was set to hold elections under the supervision of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a free, fair and transparent manner.
