UN welcomes payments to victims of Bangladesh’s year-old factory collapse -
UNITED NATIONS, April 24 (APP):  One year after the global garment industry’s worst industrial accident, the fund chaired by the United Nations to compensate victims of Bangladesh’s Rana Plaza factory collapse has begun issuing its initial round of payments, the UN said.

WASHINGTON, April 14 (APP): Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said things are shaping up for Pakistan’s economic boost as macroeconomic stability has earned the country huge confidence of international investors and financial institutions. Wrapping up a hectic visit to Washington, during which he had a series of meetings with World Bank, IMF and U.S. officials, Senator Dar also said major financial institutions now agree with Islamabad that Pakistan’s GDP growth would surpass their earlier projections. “The World Bank and the IMF now agree that the country would chalk up a better economic growth than earlier projections and our projection for the year  is 4 percent plus”, he told Washington-based Pakistani journalists.

ISLAMABAD, April 14 (APP): Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbassi has said there was no division in the Federal Cabinet and it was working smoothly. Differences among political parties on different issues were a routine matter and part of the democratic system, he said while talking to a private television. Replying to a question, the minister said negotiation was a continuous process. The government had initiated the dialogue process with Taliban in consultation with the political parties, he added. To another question, he said Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf would have to face courts for violating the Constitution. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had faced courts in the false cases fabricated against him during the period of dictatorial regime, he added.

app75-13islamabad.jpgISLAMABAD, April 13 (APP): Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Sunday said comprehensive dialogue with Taliban would start from next meeting, to be held in a couple of days. “Talks between the government side and Taliban were formally started in a couple of weeks ago and the next meeting will be held with comprehensive agenda,” the minister said while addressing a press conference. He said there was no deadlock in the dialogue process. Nisar said there was no difference of opinion between the government and the army regarding the dialogue. Release of 19 non-combatants prisoners was carried out with consensus, he added. He said so far there was no plan to release combatant prisoners and even no such demand had been made by Taliban. He contradicted the news item that a Taliban commander had been released.

LAHORE, Apr 13 (APP): Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain on Sunday said that Pakistan would be emerged in to rapid growing economies of not only Asia but also of the world. Talking to mediamen before leaving for Malaysia at Sheikhupura, he said that “Pakistan can earn enormous revenue by introducing its defence equipments to the world”. The Minister said that foreign investment worth billions of dollars, adding that increase in rupee value against the dollar was the result of the best economic policies of the PML-N government. He added that investment-friendly policies of the present government had restored the confidence of foreign investors.

No loadshedding more than 6 to 8 hours: Abid Sher PDF Print E-mail

OKARA, Apr 13 (APP): State Minister for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali on Sunday said that loadshedding of electricity would not be carried out more than 6 to 8 hours in the country. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of 132 KV grid station in Dipalpur, he claimed that consumers would have to face less loadshedding of electricity than that of previous years. He said that 4,000 megawatt electricity would be added to the national grid by the end of May 2014. He warned that there was no room for power thieves in the country.
