Pak navy frigate Shamsheer gets warm welcome -
BEIJING, Apr 20 (APP): Vessels from seven countries, including Pakistan, arrived at the port of Qingdao in East China’s Shandong province Sunday morning, ahead of the 14th annual meeting of Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), which the PLA’s navy is expected to launch on Tuesday, media report said.


No food left in besieged Palestinian refugee camp in Syria: UN -
UNITED NATIONS, April 20 (APP): The United Nations has renewed its  demand for unimpeded humanitarian access to the besieged Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, warning that there is no UN food aid left there as  escalation in the Syrian conflict prevented the delivery of desperately needed assistance.

UNITED NATIONS, April 19 (APP): A senior United Nations envoy on Saturday said he was dismayed that a peaceful Easter procession led by Palestinian Christians through Jerusalem’s Old City was disrupted by Israeli security forces.

NEW YORK, April 19 (APP): The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based independent watchdog body, has voiced concern over the attack on Geo News senior anchor Hamid Mir in Karachi on Saturday and called for bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The Prime Minister said that re-emergence of Pakistan in the International market shows that the prudent and focused economic policies of the government are now proving successful. He said that this success also reflects the confidence of the International economic forces and institutions in the economic stability and strength of Pakistan.

Speaking as chief guest at overseas Pakistanis convention, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced that dual nationality should not be hindrance in their political rights to vote, even at a time when PML-N was in opposition. He said that overseas Pakistanis were the country’s asset as they contributed a lot for the economy through remittances and added the government would take all possible steps to resolve their problems. He urged the overseas Pakistanis to come forward and benefit from the investment friendly policies of the government.

He said that countries like China, Malaysia and South Korea designed their decades long vision and transformed them into reality, which resulted in progress and economic development of these countries. NEW YORK, April 9 (APP): Pakistan returned to the international bond markets Wednesday after a seven-year hiatus, joining a number of other countries around the world raising cash as investors look to put money to work, a leading American financial newspaper reported Wednesday. Pakistan sold $2 billion of debt, with almost two-thirds going to U.S.-based money managers, two days after Sri Lanka sold a bond for a second time this year, according to The Wall Street Journal. It coted bankers as saying that Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh and Bhutan are also expected to come to the market this year, hoping to lock in low yields.

WASHINGTON, April 9 (APP): Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Wednesday discussed enhancing Pakistan-US economic cooperation with American officials in a meeting of Economic Working Group under the Strategic Dialogue. Senator Ishaq Dar also had a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State William J Burns on further strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations. Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani and Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood Khan, accompanied Finance Minister Dar at the State Department meetings. Dar is scheduled to take part in IMF-World Bank meetings during his visit.

Sardar urged the overseas Pakistanis to invest in the country and send more remittances for economic development of the country. Oversees Pakistanis attach high expectations from the present government and in this regard the government has taken initiatives for their well being, he added.

ISLAMABAD, April 9 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir said on Wednesday that all trading border posts would be upgraded on scientific basis to promote trade in the region. “The government is re-assessing country’s trade strategy and in future it would focus its attention on those regions where there is high demand of Pakistani goods”, he said in a statement issued here.
