PESHAWAR, May 7 (APP): At least 13 have been killed and 40 others injured in two deadly attacks on election meetings in Hangu and Dir Lower on Tuesday. Police said the first incident occurred at Doaba main bazaar where former MPA and candidate of JUI-F, Syed Hassan Janaan was attacked by outlaws by detonating a powerful bomb, which was planted on motorcycle with remote control device. As a result, ten persons were killed and 33 others injured who were shifted to hospitals. However, Mufti Janaan narrowly escaped.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Tuesday said that there had been some terrorist incidents, which would by and large not affect voters turnout. The turnout is expected to be reasonably good, said the Prime Minister while talking to German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Cyrill Nunn, who called on him here. He said that all was set to hold elections under the supervision of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a free, fair and transparent manner.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Caretaker Minister for Interior Malik Habib Khan on Tuesday said that the government is striving to hold free and fair elections by ensuring effective security measures during the election process. Talking to senior journalists here, the minister said that security would be provided in consultation with Election Commission and provincial governments to avoid any untoward incident and to ensure the smooth transfer of power to the elected representatives of the people. He said the ministry after 18th amendment has a coordinating role to intervene in provinces under specific circumstances, adding the primary function of maintaining law and order is completely delegated to provinces.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP) Pakistan on Tuesday strongly reacted to disturbed situation of safety and security of Pakistani visitors in India. Foreign Office Spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry in a statement said, “We have seen some disturbing reports in the Indian media which indicate that the safety and security of Pakistani visitors to India, including that of over 600 Zaireen scheduled to visit Ajmer Sharif for the annual Urs this month, may be in jeopardy.” The spokesman said the Government of Pakistan wishes to advise its citizens who are planning to travel to India to exercise due caution and care while travelling to various parts of India. He said the Government of Pakistan would also call upon the Government of India to ensure that necessary arrangements are in place to provide full protection to all Pakistani visitors to India.

KARACHI, May 7 (APP): Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Tuesday stressed on the implementation of integrated and well-coordinated security plan to ensure holding of peaceful elections. According to Director General of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj. Gen. Asim Salim Bajwa, the COAS said this during a detailed briefing on the security plan for the general elections at a high level meeting. The Army Chief arrived here in the morning from Quetta.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Khan Barozai Tuesday called on Prime Minister Justice ® Mir Hazar Khan Khoso at Prime Minister House. The Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the preparations made by the Balochistan government for the general elections in Balochistan. The recent attacks on candidates and political meetings in the province also came under discussion. The Prime Minister directed the Chief Minister to further enhance the security of candidates, rallies and the masses so that political parties effectively carry out their campaigns in the province. Progress on developmental projects being completed in Balochistan was also discussed in detail. The Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on issues pertaining to Balochistan and the efforts being done to facilitate and ensure smooth elections in the province.

LAHORE, May 7 (APP): The condition of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was out of danger at Fazal Hospital, Liberty Market, where he was rushed after falling from the makeshift lift before addressing a public meeting here at Ghalib Market Tuesday evening. Doctors at the hospital said that Imran was quite well and stitching of head injury had been completed. The Fazal Hospital management said that Imran Khan had been shifted to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. PTI Additional Information Secretary Lahore Umar Khan also confirmed that Imran’s condition was stable. The PTI Chairman has been stopped from campaigning for tonight and he will resume addressing public meetings on Wednesday, he added.

ISLAMABAD, May 6 (APP): Prime Minister Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso Monday approved a policy for posting of top officers in Islamabad Capital Territory on rotation basis from all provinces of the country. Among the officers, who would be posted on rotation basis from all provinces, include ICT Chief Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Inspector General of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations). The Prime Minister said that the decision would create a level-playing field for officers from all the federating units. “It will also contribute to create national harmony and remove sense of deprivation among officers belonging to smaller provinces,” he added. The Prime Minister hoped that the policy would go a long way to provide officers from all provinces an experience of working in the ICT that would be instrumental in enriching their career.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Pakistan Tuesday protested over the unprovoked firing incident by Afghan forces on a Frontier Constabulary (FC) border post on Monday, injuring five soldiers. The Afghan Charge d’ Affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office here and conveyed the protest on repetition of unprovoked firing from the Afghan posts on Pakistan’s Gursal post on May 6. A Foreign Office spokesman, in a statement, said that as in the past, Pakistan’s security forces exercised maximum restraint and communicated first to the Afghan side about repetition of the serious violation through military channels.
