ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP): Bill Gates, Co-Chair of Bill & Malinda Gates Foundation Tuesday lauding the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari sought his continued support to polio eradication and routine immunization during this time of transition in Pakistan. In a letter delivered to the President on Tuesday through his special envoy, he said that through the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan has developed a strong National Emergency Action Plan for polio eradication leading to significant progress and the President’s support has been integral to the progress in the polio eradication program.Bill Gates also commended the President for his role during the recent elections. Pointing out significant reduction of the polio cases in the country, he noted that cases of Polio were 62% lower this year than during the same period in 2012 and no cases of wild poliovirus type 3 have been reported thus far in 2013.

ISLAMABAD, June 11 (APP): Economic performance portrayed in the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2012-13, remained dismal during the outgoing fiscal year as most of the economic benchmarks could not be roped in, hitting country’s overall growth rate.However, the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government is determined and has ability to steer the country out of economic uncertainity, remarked Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar while unveiling the pre-budget document at a press conference here Tuesday. The Minister was flanked by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Advisor Finance Ministry Rana Asad Amin, Secretary Finance Dr Waqar Masood, Economic Advisor, Syed Ejaz Wasti and other officials of Finance and Planning divisions.The federal minister said that growth rate during the outgoing fiscal year stayed at 3.6 per cent against the target of 4.3 per cent and growth of 4.4 percent in the previous fiscal year.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Pervez Rasheed on Tuesday said that government would manage Rs 503 billion as soon as possible, to pay circular debt to the power producing companies for reducing load shedding. The government would not take loan or print more currency notes to pay this amount, he added. Talking to a private TV channel, Pervez Rashid said that power companies would be paid money on the condition of increasing power production. He observed that difference between energy production and selling charges as well as the major institutions including Pakistan Steel Mills, Pakistan Railways and Pakistan International Airlines were causing an annual loss of 1,000 billion rupees to the national exchequer.

ISLAMABAD, June 11 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday directed Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch to initiate a process of reconciliation with estranged Baloch elements. He asked the Chief Minister to convey his desire for their participation in the national mainstream. The Prime Minister was talking to Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch who called on him at the Prime Minister’s Office. The Prime Minister expressed the resolve that his government wanted to usher in a new era in Balochistan and work for removal of the past bitterness.He said that they wanted to start a new page of everlasting love and affection in the province. The Prime Minister also congratulated Dr. Abdul Malik on his unanimous election as Chief Minister of Balochistan and assured him that the Federal Government would extend all possible assistance to his government.

Ambassador for Polio eradication Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar, Secretary to President Ms. Nasreen Haque and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.

security is our utmost responsibility and highest priority. All
necessary resources will be provided to strengthen Pakistan Navy and
enhance its professional capabilities.” Prime
Minister Nawaz said Pakistan Navy had an important role in defending
the maritime boundaries of the country and safeguarding sovereignty in
the high seas.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP): Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that PML-N government desires to extend mutual cooperation with United Kingdom beyond current bilateral issues of terrorism, drugs, immigration and money laundering to a broader spectrum.The cooperation should extend on day to day civic issues which would be short listed by him and a request would be made for institutional support, he said this while talking to British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Adam Thomson, who along with a delegation which called on him here and discussed matters of mutual interest.The Minister also conveyed that in keeping with the help extended by the British government in Punjab on forensics expertise and laboratories he would make a similar request for helping out the Federal Government.

ISLAMABAD, June 11 (APP): The newly elected democratic government is all set to present its very first Federal Budget of about Rs 3.4 trillion for the fiscal year 2013-14 before the National Assembly here on Wednesday (June 12) afternoon. Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar will lay budget proposals for the financial year 2013-14 in the House, sources said adding these budget proposals will first be presented for approval before the federal cabinet in its special session to be chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The National Budget for the upcoming financial year envisages revival economy, overcoming challenges at economic front particularly resolving the energy crisis and reducing non-development expenditures and providing relief to the masses including measures for provision of job opportunities to the unemployed youth.
