Pakistan for focused efforts to stop use of children in armed conflicts -
NATIONS, Mar 8 (APP): Pakistan has emphasized focused efforts to stem
the use of children in armed conflicts and also reiterated its call for
end to all drone strikes since they infringe the rights of children to
life and education. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN
Ambassador Masood Khan noted in a Security Council’s debate on ‘Children
and Armed Conflict” that children are often coerced to take part in
active hostilities. “Pushing children into combat situations is
inhuman. As a soldier, a child becomes both the subject and object of
crimes. This scourge can be, and must be, stopped,” the diplomat
underscored, while saying that the testimony by Alhaji Babah Swaneh, a
former child soldier, “has touched our hearts.”

Mar 8 (APP): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Saturday that China
will hold the Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Istanbul Process on
Afghanistan in August. “We will send invitations to the Istanbul
Process’ 14 member states and 28 supporting parties,” Wang told a press
conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the top
legislature. “We hope that through the process we can help the
parties build consensus, work together to support efforts to complete
the triple transitions, and encourage the situation in Afghanistan to
move toward lasting peace,” he added. The first one to be held in
China, the Fourth Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Istanbul Process
on Afghanistan was slated for August in China’s Tianjin.
Pakistan-US defence partnership critical to regional security, stability: Ambassador Jilani -
WASHINGTON, Mar 7 (APP): Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani has said a robust and forward-looking defence partnership between Pakistan and the U.S. is critical for security and stability of the region. He made these remarks addressing officers of the Staff Course and War course at Marine Corps University in Quantico. Ambassador Jilani noted that Pakistan and the United States have together made valuable gains in fighting al-Qaeda and other terrorist networks and there is a mutual desire to further build on this fruitful cooperation.

WASHINGTON, Feb 7 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani visited the Capitol Hill to meet with Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, a Republican from New Jersey, and Chairman Defense Appropriations sub-committee and discussed Pakistan-U.S. relations. Ambassador Jilani had a wide-ranging discussion with Congressman Frelinghuysen on Pakistan-US bilateral cooperation, the Pakistani embassy said Thursday. Congressman Frelinghuysen appreciated Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He also noted that a vibrant Pakistani-American community in New Jersey was playing an active role in strengthening the bilateral relationship.

NEW YORK, Feb, 7 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Masood Khan, and other speakers at a special event on Thursday night pledged to stand by Kashmiri prople until the realisation of their “sacred” right to self-determination. The speakers denounced the large-scale human rights violations taking place in Indian occupied Kashmir, and urged the international community to help resolve the decades-old dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and protection of their fundamental rights.
KARACHI, March 8 (APP): Defending champion Hamza Akbar and Sohail Shehzad shocked fancied cueists Muhammad Asif and Imran Shehzad respectively to advance in the semi-finals of Jubilee Insurance 39th National Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana Billiards Hall on Saturday. It will be all Punjab affair in the last four rounds of the competition as Asjad Iqbal and Muhammad Toba also won their quarter-finals. Hamza produced the biggest shock of the championship so far, when he came from 1-2 behind to beat former IBSF World Amateur Snooker Champion Asif 5-2.
PESHAWAR, Mar 8 (APP): Defending Champion Islamic University Bahawalpur and Government College University Lahore recorded victories in the penalty shoot out battle on the second day of the All-Pakistan Inter-University Men Hockey Championship being played at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium on Saturday. Chairman Sports and Sciences Department Sargodha University Dr Asghar Javed was the chief guest on this occasion and before the start of the matches the players of all the teams were introduced to him. Organizing Secretary Bahre Karam, Director Development KP Sports Board Arshad Hussain, former manager Pakistan team Shahid Javed Mirza, officials and players were also present.
SARGODHA, Mar 8 (APP): Players of the University of Sargodha (UoS)had clinched overall second position in the Punjab Youth Festival contests 2014. University press release said on Saturday that in inter-varsities boys contest of cricket and billiard the UoS clinched first position, in Badminton, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Foot-ball and Basket Ball second whereas in body building one gold and one bronze medals and overall remained on second position. In weight lifting two silver medals with second position, in athletics the UoS clinched one gold medal and overall remained on second position. Similarly, in Girls Youth Festival Contests UoS clinched second position in tug of war, Basket Ball second, Hockey second, Badminton second, Athletics one gold, two silver, two bronze medals and in Karate the university players got three bronze medals.
PESHAWAR, March 7 (APP): The final round of the HEC, Inter University Hockey Tournament got underway at the (Late) Qazi Muhib Hockey Ground of the University of Peshawar. Sixteen Universities amongst the one hundred and twenty participating teams made it to the top round and are divided into eight zones in the four day event. Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the concluding round. He inspected and met the members of the teams. He was accompanied by officials of the Higher Education Commission, former Captain of Pakistan Hockey team Muhammad Saqlain and others.
Mar 7 (APP): Former captain Wasim Bari believed that Pakistan team
enjoyed edge over Sri Lanka but they must have simple plan to retain the
Cricket Asia Cup on Saturday. “No doubt, Pakistan team achieved
excellence in their wins against India and Bangladesh in the league
rounds.But final is a final and its altogether a different game,” he
told APP on Friday. He advised players to forget the past in the event and fully focus to win all important final match which mattered the most. “Two
best teams have entered the final.It will be a close contest.But,
Pakistan on the basis of their bowling variety got the edge against the
Islanders,” he maintained.

أفادت مصادر مطلعة بأن لقي طفل مصرعه وأصيب
أربعة آخرون بجروح في انفجار القنبلة عبر جهاز تحكم من بعد في بلدة " بارة
" في منطقة خيبر القبلية الباكستانية، وأضافت المصادر نفسها بأن الأطفال
كانوا يلعبون عندما انفجرت القنبلة مما أدى إلى مقتل طفل وإصابة آخرين بجروح، وفي
حين تم نقل المصابين إلى مستشفى المدينة.
