PESHAWAR, Feb 18
(APP): Provincial Education Minister Sardar Hussain Babak has
said that the development and stability of the country depended upon democracy and
urged all the political parties and people to work for sustainable democracy in
the country.

During his visit to
APP Bureau office on Wednesday, Sardar Hussain Babak while
giving his comment on ‘Democracy Day’ said that democracy has completed one
successful year on February 18 and assured that the government was trying its
best to live up to the people’s expectations and restore peace in the restive
areas of the Province.
He said that the
first four months of the present government were spent in confrontation with the
former dictator Pervez Musarraf in a bid to oust him from the power corridor and
for the establishment of real democracy.
In reply to
a question, Sardar Babak said that the present Provincial
government has performed well given the present crises situation in the Province
adding that none other party has suffered more than ANP that has lost more than
200 devoted workers.
“We fought bravely
with militants in Swat and other restive areas of the Province and with the
grace of Allah Nizam-e-Adl Regulation was implemented in Malakand Division that
would help end law and order situation besides bringing peace and stability in
the Province”, he maintained.
Deputy Secretary
General PPP, NWFP Zulfiqar Ahmad Afghani has said that PPP has rendered great
sacrifices for democracy and today on the day of democracy we renew our pledge
and commitment for supremacy of law, democratic stability and for protecting the
rights of the masses.
In an exclusive
interview with APP in connection with the day of democracy here on
Wednesday, Zulfiqar Afghani said that democracy was flourishing in the country and
the government was taking result-oriented measures for resolving the problems
confronted by the masses.
He said that PPP
leaders have rendered great sacrifices for democracy in the country and it was
not gifted to them in plate. Moreover, he went on to add that PPP was a
democratic party that has taken principled stance on various issues clashing
with democracy.
President PPP
District Peshawar Syed Ayub Shah said that Pakistan was founded on the basis of
democracy and therefore its stability depended on it.
He said that PPP
government was struggling against many forces to provide stable democracy to the
people of the country and asked the people to support the government in its
fight against dictatorship.
“ We should renew
our pledge on this day of democracy that the great sacrifices of Bhutto family
would not go waste and that we would not hesitate from rendering any sacrifice
in this regard”, he concluded.
