UN chief welcomes Paris meeting between PM Sharif and India's Modi -
UNITED NATIONS, Nov 30 (APP): Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that took place on the margins of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris on Monday. "We obviously welcome any direct contacts between prime ministers of India and Pakistan," the secretary-general's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric," told APP at UN Headquarters in New York when asked for the UN chief's reaction on the development.                                    

Climate change agreement must be cognizant of developing countries' needs: PM -

PARIS, Nov 30 (APP):  Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday said that Pakistan was committed to reduction of global emissions with various initiatives already taken like efforts for renewable technologies, energy efficiency, implementation of mass transport systems and expansion of hydro-electricity potential. "For the effective implementation of our (Pakistan's) national programmes, finance, technology transfer, and capacity building remain key enablers," he said while speaking at the leaders event of a two-week 21st UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) which started here in the French capital.

Both Pakistan, India desire to move forward: PM -
PARIS, Nov 30 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday said that both Pakistan and India desired to move forward and 'all states must keep the door to dialogue open.' Talking to newsmen, the Prime Minister said he and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a good chat in a good atmosphere. To a question, he said all issues could not be discussed in a brief interaction.

NEW YORK, Nov 30 (APP):  Famed Pakistani singer classical singer Ustad Hamid Ali Khan enthralled an appreciative audience with his lilting ghazals and songs at a musical soiree held at the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations in New York. Pakistan U.N. Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi hosted the cultural event as part of her efforts to promote the soft image of the country.                                    

Dialogue only way to resolve disputes between two countries: Fatemi -
PARIS, Nov 30 (APP): Describing as "good"  the meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi on Monday said dialogue was the only way to resolve disputes between any two states. "Prime Minister Modi himself approached Prime Minister Sharif and had a brief meeting," Tariq Fatemi told APP after the meeting which was held here on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference.

ECP allots election symbols to KP independent candidates PDF Print E-mail
PESHAWAR, April 19 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) allotted election symbols to independent candidates here on Friday. The symbols to candidates, who are contesting elections 2013 from four National Assembly and 11 provincial assembly seats, were allotted by the Returning Officers concerned. The ECP had already allotted election symbols to about 148 political parties last month.
Mrs. Aneela Shaheen, a senior journalist, who is contesting general election from NA-4 Peshawar as independent candidate, was alloted ‘basket’ while another independent candidate from NA-2 and PK-6 Peshwar, Khadim Hussain Khalil was allotted ‘Stag’ and ‘Wheel Barrow’ respectively.
Khadim Hussain told APP that preference was being given to candidates’ choice before allot of symbols and both the election symbol allotted to him was per his choice.
“If I am elected, top focus would be given to establish educational institutes in NA-2 and PK-6 as problems of unemployment, law and order, illiteracy and poverty could only be addressed through promotion of education,” Khadim told APP.
He said problems of NA-2 were many including lack of quality educational and vocational institutes, non pavement of streets and link roads, lack of disposal of solid waste, Basic Health Units’ unavailability in majority villages, outdated drainage system and vowed to solve all these problems if elected.
He said people were looking for change in this elections and were fed up from hereditary politics. Khalil asked voters to exercise their right of franchise wisely this time and elect honest and devoted workers with will to
address their problems in their doorsteps.
