UN dims lights to focus attention on climate change -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 29 (APP): The United Nations went dark later Saturday evening as the Organization shuts off the lights at its iconic Headquarters complex in New York and other facilities around the world in observance of ‘Earth Hour,’ an annual global event raising awareness about the need to take action on climate change and promoting sustainable energy consumption.


Pakistan renew its commitment to UN peacekeeping at first-ever defence chiefs conference -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (APP): Pakistan has renewed its commitment to the “noble cause” of United Nations peacekeeping, the world body’s flagship activity that helps countries torn by conflict to create the conditions for lasting peace.


At UN, Pakistan urges action to end violence against religious, ethnic minorities in Mideast -
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (APP):  Pakistan Friday called for U.N. Security Council action to end the religiously and ethnically-motivated violence sweeping the Middle East by promoting a global consensus for resolving the challenges confronting Iraq, Syria, Yemen and “most importantly” Palestine.


US says Pakistan making sincere effort for Afghan peace -
WASHINGTON, March 28 (APP): Pakistan is making a “sincere effort” towards Afghan peace and it wants to make the best use of the “new environment” by aiding a negotiated political settlement to the conflict in the neighboring country, U.S. Special
Representative Dan Feldman said.

UNITED NATIONS, Mar 27 (APP): At the first-ever United Nations Chiefs of Defence Conference Friday,  Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appealed to senior military officials for more troop contributions from States around the world and for political will and purpose.

MELBOURNE, March 29 (APP): Australia won the 11th edition of Cricket World Cup on Sunday when they defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in one-sided final here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.
 
Hafeez must be made captain: Sarfraz Nawaz
ISLAMABAD, Mar 29 (APP): Former Test Cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz on Sunday urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make Muhammad Hafeez the captain of the One Day side saying currently the all-rounder suits best to lead the team.

MELBOURNE, March 29 (APP): Pakistan cricket team will be undertaking  a tour of Sri Lanka from the second week of June to play a series of 3-match Test, five One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals, a spokesman of Cricket Sri Lanka told reporters here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Doggar hits unbeaten ton in Sialkot’s big win in One-Day Cup PDF Print E-mail
KARACHI, March 7 (APP):  Muhammad Ayub Doggar hammered an attacking unbeaten century as Sialkot Stallions thrashed Lahore Eagles by 114 runs in Faysal Bank Cup One-Day Cricket Tournament at National Stadium here on Thursday. Doggar, who played one Test for Pakistan last year, cracked ten boundaries and a brace of sixes in his 102 off 77 balls and Mansoor Amjad made 61 in 55 deliveries with four fours and two sixes as Sialkot Stallions piled 322 for the loss of five wickets in their 50 overs after batting first. 
Off-break bowler Adnan Rasool bowled admirably well in difficult conditions by grabbing three wickets for 42 runs in ten overs.
Lahore Eagles in reply were bowled out for 208 in 45.1 overs.
Pakistan’s Test discard Adnan Akam slammed a  defiant undefeated and attacking 85 off 76 balls studded with a dozen boundaries.
This was Lahore Eagles second defeat in the competition.

Sialkot Stallion 322-5 in 50 overs (Ayub Doggar 102 not out, Mansoor Amjad 61, Yasir Aziz 50, Adnan Rasool 3-42, Muhammad Waleed 2-71) Lahore Eagles 208 all out 45.1 overs (Adnan Akmal 85 not out, Adnan Raza 31, Sami Aslam 25, Mansoor Amjad 2-26, Nayyar Abbas 2-38, Bilal Bhatti 2-33, Muhammad Abbas 2-39).
