Saqlian questions “Doosara” in present era
KARACHI, Apr 17 (APP): Master off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq indirectly questioned the legality of “Doosra” in the current era.  The inventor of the mystery ball, said that, due to his technique, he never felt any difficulty in managing the away going delivery,” he told a private television channel on Thurdsay. He declined to comment on the official rules, in this regard, saying that it was the job of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to look into the matter.
 
11th National Women Softball Championship from Friday
RAWALPINDI, April 17 (APP): A three-day 11th National Women Softball Championship-2014 will be held at Pindi Cricket Stadium from Friday. In a joint announcement here, District Coordination Officer  (DCO) Sajid Zafar Dall and Chairperson Senate Standing Committtee on Sports Kalsoom Perveen, said Six teams from all over the country including defending champions Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad and Police Department would participate in the championship.
 
National Shooting trials for Asian, CW Games on May 10
KARACHI, Apr 17 (APP): Second phase of trials to select Pakistan sharp shooters for this year’s Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be held at Naval International Shooting Range here on May 10, National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) announced on Thursday. “Trials will be conducted in all events like Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun,” Executive Vice President NRAP Razi Ahmed Khan told APP here.
 
Army excels in National Taekwondo
KARACHI, Apr 16 (APP): Pakistan Army swept all the 30 gold medals at stake in the National Taekwondo Championship at the Rangers Training Centre & School here, said a news release issued here on Wednesday. Army martial arts players dominated the event from start to finish with superb technique and power.
 
First round of Inter-Media cricket tournament ends
ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP): The Inter-Media Cricket Tournament organized by Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) continues in full swing here. The tournament, organized in collaboration with National Press Club, comprises of teams belonging to national and international print and electronic media. WASHINGTON, Sept 23 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman told an American audience at a cultural event Saturday night that Sufism embraces the spirit of tolerance and inclusion, and its message is increasingly relevant in this age of competing ideologies. She was speaking at the Smithsonian Institute, where popular Pakistani Sufi singer Sanam Marvi gave a mesmerizing performance, attended by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar. The new US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson, senior American officials and a large number of Pakistani and American followers of the mystic poetry and music attended the performance by the acclaimed singer.
In her remarks, Ambassador Sheery Rehman made it clear that Sufism is not a sect of Islam.
“Its practice encapsulates the very essence of our faith,” the envoy said. “For over a decade now,” she said, “we have seen the marketplace of global ideas distorted by new walls of hatred and prejudice... This negativity causes many to lose hope in the project of peaceful civilizations, that instead of clashing, nurtures the best in humanity.
She said that Pakistan’s founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, actively advocated a plural model of citizenship, asserting that all Pakistani citizens shall enjoy the same rights and privileges, regardless of their religious affiliation. Sherry Rehman explained to the attentive audience the  message of Sufism as she observed that “being grounded in the mystical connection between the individual and the divine, Sufism embraces the spirit of tolerance and inclusion in both its discourse and practice”.
This is one of the reasons why Sufi saints played a central role in the spread of Islam, especially in South Asia, making it the second biggest and the most practiced religion in the world, she added.
“The Sufi doctrine is simple and universal, that the light of God abides in the heart of each person. The Sufi ‘tariqa’ or the Sufi way guides us on the roads of the inner journey towards discovering the self, for the ultimate goal of reaching the divine light and wisdom that each one of us carries within.”
“What could, indeed, be a more appropriate and opportune time to think and reflect about the message of unity, peace, togetherness and patience exemplified by the life and teachings of Sufi saints and their philosophy of life?” Ambassador Rehman stressed.
