UN rights chief voices alarm over rising civilian deaths in Gaza -
UNITED NATIONS, July 11 (APP): Voicing alarm at the Israeli military operations resulting in the killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, as well as firing of rockets from Gaza into Israel, the United Nations human rights chief Friday appealed to all sides to abide by their obligations to protect civilians. 


More than half of world’s population now living in urban areas, UN survey finds -
UNITED NATIONS, July 11 (APP): An additional 2.5 billion people are predicted to live in urban areas by 2050, the United Nations today reported, highlighting the need for a successful urban planning agenda and greater attention to be given to smaller cities where nearly half of all people currently reside.

De Mistura to succeed Brahimi as new UN envoy for Syria -
UNITED NATIONS , July 11 (APP): Veteran diplomat Staffan de Mistura, a former U.N. special envoy to Afghanistan and Iraq, will replace Lakhdar Brahimi as the new special envoy tasked with seeking a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Syria.

President condoles death of renowned writer Hajra Masroor PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Sep. 16 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday expressed his profound sorrow and grief on the demise of renowned writer and author of several Urdu books and short stories, Hajra Masroor who passed away on Saturday morning in Karachi at the age of 82.President Zardari appreciated her life long services for the promotion of Urdu literature through her books and short stories.The President said Hajra Masroor had been advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights of women and got several awards, including the Pride of Performance Award for best writer in 1995.President Zardari prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
