UNITED NATIONS, July 12 (APP):  With 1.8 billion young people around the world the largest generation of youth in history senior U.N. officials are marking World Population Day with calls for a renewed commitment to helping young people improve their lives and the common future.


UN rights chief voices alarm over rising civilian deaths in Gaza -
UNITED NATIONS, July 11 (APP): Voicing alarm at the Israeli military operations resulting in the killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, as well as firing of rockets from Gaza into Israel, the United Nations human rights chief Friday appealed to all sides to abide by their obligations to protect civilians. 


More than half of world’s population now living in urban areas, UN survey finds -
UNITED NATIONS, July 11 (APP): An additional 2.5 billion people are predicted to live in urban areas by 2050, the United Nations today reported, highlighting the need for a successful urban planning agenda and greater attention to be given to smaller cities where nearly half of all people currently reside.

De Mistura to succeed Brahimi as new UN envoy for Syria -
UNITED NATIONS , July 11 (APP): Veteran diplomat Staffan de Mistura, a former U.N. special envoy to Afghanistan and Iraq, will replace Lakhdar Brahimi as the new special envoy tasked with seeking a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Dr Asim Hussain briefs PM about energy situation PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain called on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf here at the PM House on Tuesday and discussed with him the current energy situation in the country. The Advisor informed the Prime Minister that CNG stations were provided gas so that people do not face problems during Eid holidays. The Prime Minister said that every effort should be made to use the precious gas resources optimally so that the industry and the normal daily routine of people is least effected.
