Pakistan committed to protection of religious freedoms: Sherry Rehman PDF Print E-mail
WASHINGTON, Aug 9 (APP): Pakistan is firmly committed to promotion  and protection of religious freedoms and the democratically elected Parliament and the present Government have been particularly active in pursuing this goal, the country’s ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman said. She was talking to Dr. Katrina Lantos Swett, Chair of the US Commission on International Freedom, who called on the ambassador. Dr. Swett apprised Ambassador Rehman of her Commission’s work and interest in promoting religious freedoms around the world.

She praised Ambassador Rehman for her personal commitment to the protection and promotion of religious freedom and minority rights in Pakistan.
Ambassador Rehman noted that the minorities make invaluable contributions to the development, peace and prosperity of Pakistan and the government is committed to fully harnessing their potential and contributions in all walks of life.
Ambassador Rehman noted that she was particularly pained to see the rise in religious intolerance across the globe including in the  United States. She stressed that interfaith harmony can be promoted  through collective and concerted efforts, which required greater understanding of each other’s sensitivities.
