ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): Two-time former champion Pakistan warmed-up for its Saturday’s ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup opener against Afghanistan with a comfortable eight wickets victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG) in its last practice match in South Brisbane on Wednesday. Opener Sami Aslam stroked a fine century while Inam-ul-Haq returned unbeaten on 38 as Pakistan achieved an easy 195-run target with eight wickets and just over 17 overs to spare, says a press release issued here.
Sami clubbed 22 fours and 3 sixes in a 99-ball 132 while Inam’s 64-ball
knock included four fours. The two batsmen added 146 runs for the second
wicket after Captain Babar Azam had returned to the pavilion after
scoring 10.
Earlier, Usman Qadir returned figures of three for 32 as PNG was
restricted to 196 for six after being put into bat. Opener Lega Siaka
with 46 was the top scorer while Nigel Boge (41 not out) and Dogodo Bau
(37 not out) put on 91 runs for the unfinished seventh wicket in 15
overs.
The two sides will be in action on the opening day of the tournament on
Saturday. Pakistan will play Afghanistan on the Sunshine Coast while PNG
will face off Zimbabwe at Endeavour Park 1 in Townsville.
