Some 22 million displaced by natural disasters in 2013: UN-backed report -
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 18 (APP): A new U.N.-backed report launched Thursday reveals that 22 million people worldwide were displaced in 2013 by disasters sparked largely by earthquakes or climate-and weather-related events, almost three times more than by conflict in the same year.


UN Mideast envoy announces deal on reconstruction in Gaza -
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 17 (APP) : With the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire holding in the Gaza Strip, the United Nations has reached agreement with Israel and Palestinian Authority on a new reconstruction mechanism for the enclave to kick start recovery and rehabilitation and give hope to the people there, a senior UN envoy announced.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 4 (APP): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has thanked Dr Abdul Rahim Al-Keib, Prime Minister of Libya, Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Felip Calderon Hinojosa, President of the United States of Mexico, Mirko Cvetkovic, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Robert Fico, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, and Peter Necas, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, on their messages of felicitations on assumption of the office of Prime Minister of Pakistan.In his letter of thanks to the Libyan counterpart, the Prime Minister said, “Pakistan and Libya enjoy close and brotherly relations, which are rooted in our common faith and culture.“I take this opportunity to reassure you that it would be my endeavour to further strengthen the friendly and cordial relations existing between our two countries.
