ISLAMABAD, Aug 1 (APP): Pakistan fast-bowler Umar Gul on Wednesday said the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup provided Azhar Ali the opportunity to develop his strengths, making him one of the stars of international cricket. While discussing the benefits of the U19 CWC, Umar said Azhar played in New Zealand 10 years ago as a bowler but now he is the mainstay of Pakistan’s middle-order, said a press release issued here.“Azhar was a very keen batsman even then but the ICC U19 CWC actually provided him that platform and opportunity where he evaluated and reworked on his strengths and is now one of the stars of international cricket,” Umar said.Umar said the U19 CWC is a launching pad for players giving them an opportunity to test themselves against the best players from all over the world in that age group. “The U19 CWC gives players a good level of cricket and alarms them of what they need to do to survive or excel at the highest level in the game,” he said.
