WASHINGTON, May 23 (APP): The United States Senate early Saturday rejected the extension of the Patriot Act, which was enacted in 2001 to help the government in preventing future terrorist attacks.

UNITED NATIONS, May 22 (APP): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned "in the strongest terms" Friday's terrorist attack targeting a Shia mosque in the town of al-Qudaih in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and  called for bringing the culprits to justice.

Senators for pragmatic steps to improve law & order situation in Karachi,Balochistan PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, July 30 (APP): Senators on Monday urged the government to take appropriate measures to improve law and order situation in Karachi and parts of Balochistan and to control target killings, kidnappings for ransom and extortion.Raising the issue on points of order, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of the JUI-F and MQM’s Col ® Tahir Hussain Mashhadi expressed concern on law and order situation in the country.Haideri said that three Hindu traders had been kidnapped from Kalat for ransom some three days ago and and the markets were closed in protest against the incident.He demanded of the federal and provincial governments to take immediate action for their safe release.Col Tahir Hussain said that Karachi was the economic hub of the country which contributed 70 per cent revenue. However, the incidents of target and sectarian killing, extortion and kidnapping for ransom continued unchecked. The industries were being closed due to the law and order situation. Political will was needed to overcome the problems.
