ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): During first nine months of current fiscal year (2011-12), total public debt registered an increase of Rs. 1,315 billion and stood at Rs. 12,024 billion, said Economic Survey 2011-12 released here Thursday. According to the Budgetary Document released by the Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, “Public debt as a percent of GDP stood at 58.2 percent by end-March 2012 as compared to 55.5 percent of GDP during the same period last year”. The bulk of the increase in public debt in the first nine months of 2011-12 has been recorded under domestic debt that accounted for 91 percent of the total increase.
