3 day seminar on co-operation among SAARC new agencies in paro on May 29 |

Paro (Bhutan), May 28 (APP): A three day seminar on “How to increase co-operation among the News Agencies of SAARC” will be held here from May 29. The participants will have to present a concept note on the theme of the seminar for facilitating qualitative information, news reliability and authenticity of the source. Director, SAARC Information Centre, Kathmandu Laxmi Bilas Koirala briefing the participants about the objectives of the seminar said that it aims to foster cooperation among the SAARC News agencies for authentic information in the region, to formulate the structure of understanding for sharing information and news in the region besides broadening the coverage of the issues in the region beyond geopolitics and ensure more reportage on economic, trade, infrastructural and other issues in addition to develop better understanding on the issues of SAARC among the journalists of the region.
The seminar has been conceived in keeping view of SAARC Action plan on media and information (1998) which was adopted by the Information Ministers of the region. To increase cooperation among the news agencies in the
region is one of the most important point of the SAARC action plan.
The seminar will endeavor to develop a framework of cooperation for the News Agencies of the region and promote flow of accurate and authentic information.
The aim of cooperation would be facilitating information and news on social, political, cultural ,economic and sports. The cooperation among the news agencies is badly needed in the region, when globalization of the markets and information has already brought serious changes over the global and regional social organization and development.
The participants from each member country are participating in the seminar including Director News, Associated Press of Pakistan Dr. Waqar Ullah Chuadhry and Assistant Director, E.P Wing, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Omar Liaqat from Pakistani side.
